Need for Speed Underground: Rivals was an amazing game at the launch of the PSP. It had impressive graphics, fast-paced racing, and the like. Most important of all: it was totally addictive. I played this game race after race, I loved it. I loved upgrading and styling my car, I loved using the nitrous. I really loved the drag races. Unfortunatley, the analog nub sucks. Don't even bother using it, you may as well use the D-pad instead. The sensitivity is the same. Graphics were good back then, but as I write this in July, we know that the PSP can do better, and we have games to prove it.
NFSU is a great game, but I would not reccomend it simply because it is out of date, and there are games just like it out right now, only better. Go for Midnight Club Dub instead. More cars, more customization, better graphics, roaming, story, etc.
