| Summary: Amazing Game on the PSP - Don't Compare it to the Console
92
I think this is so far the best game out for the PSP. It's a slick arcade style racer that lets you mod the heck out of the cars. Everything to paints, plates, body kits, tires, physics. Man, you can even customize the music tracks played while you race.
Cons: First, don't compare this to the console games. While it's about 90% there, there are a few things left out. Pearlized paint isn't in the PSP version and a few other minor things like that. The motion blur nitro effects arent as good, nor is the slip streams. The load times move from 10 seconds to 70 seconds. Purists complain of a lowered frame rate, but I don't notice anything choppy. No pedestrians. And lastly, the sense of speed isn't as intense as it is on the console.
Pros: It's not a console game on the PSP. This is a completly recoded (more or less) version of the game. A few cars were added and it's amazing on the PSP. Everything is amazing. Rotating cameras when you hit jumps, the look of the cars, speed blur from nitros, and everything you can do to your car. The races are great. On screen HUD is just right, the maps are fine. Plus the amazing selection of songs you can listen to.
This is the best game I have played so far on the PSP. Yes there are some issues, like the load time and repetitive tire screach. But the play truly out weighs all the issues.
Conclusion: If you like racing games, especially arcade style games, pick this one up. Its easy to do all your car customiztion without having to be a car fanatic, and the races are challenging enough the make the play exciting. Dont expect it to be the console version on the PSP. It a PSP game. Play it as you haven't played the others and you will relealize how amazing it really is.

I've been playing it and so far have found the sluggish load times a bit hampering on this game. Feels like you spend 30% of time playing 40% customizing and 30% lost in load times. Some animation controls in the interface feel way too sluggish. The interface is not sleek at all. The street graphics are pretty nice, but have a rained over glossy look. Somewhat blurry at times too. Not nearly as slick as Ridge Racer or WipeOut (I have both of those). To its credit, the customization options are fun. I don't feel this is as much a full on racer as it is a "car hookup simulator". Races are way too short. Its pretty much you take your fancy car out into a 3d world and have some fun with it and then go back to customizing. There are a lot of unlockable custom options, and if you are a real car buff, they use real cars in it (unlike Ridge Racer). So if you wanna fantasize about spraying your VW Jetta with purple lightening bolts, getting a license plate that reads "4u2nvme" and showing it off to virtual contestants, get this.

You must have not gotten too far in the game cause it hits a point in Detroit where you think the race will never end.

Yes the load times are a bit legnthy....but I am use to my Tiger woods and the load times as well. I happen to think this game is worth the money if you can get past the load times. I wish everyone would just give this game a chance. There is alot crammed onto this PSP version...Immpressive !!!

Can any of you give a detailed description of the game as far as the "oh dawg it's spinnin, it's spinnin!!!" aspect of the game. please. Like what can you customize, options of the game, can you buy addons, change paint, change anything, what is the style of racing (I haven't played midnight club before, although i know it's about street racing) is there any rediculous dialog from competition? anything annoying aside from the loading times? Would you say that this game is more like burnout 3 or Granturismo as far as quality of cars and style of racing goes? (burnout is very arcade style racing with massive accidents and fun *unrealistic* control, as where GT3-4 has very realistic control and physics and customizable cars (internally).
I have BO3 and GT3-4, i love both.. but if this game is basically like an EA racing game (NSFU) mixed with twisted metal... i'll pass. I don't find street racing appealing, but if the gameplay is good and I can customize the cars from anything like gearboxes to custom painjobs/decals and ..... i'll get it.

You can customize EVERYTHING from the inside-out. And it handles like RR when it comes the to driving, not loose like NFSUR.
I sold both RR and NFSUR when this came in, nothing compares. As far as the load times, FLECK is right, Tiger Woods has just as long of load times with less graphics to deal with.
A must have for any gamer!

load times suck even when ur in ur garage and u wanna check out one of ur other cars theirs a 15 second load time for that but other then that i find nothing wrong with it it's kinda like playing burnout or rr in a nfsu world. i love it played all the other ones b4 this (have not played 3 on the consoles and with that said this one impressed me alot) that i played this is one of the better games out this is in the top 3 for me along with lumines and twisted metal ~~~~~ if u can get past the load times (im happy to c a load screen after an intence race gives me a break) then theirs nothing wromg with this game a must have

Well you can't detail the "inside" of the car, I meant the inside as far as the engine, turbo, nitrous, gears, suspension, etc. There are no mods for inside however which is fine since you can't see the inside of your car.
The only exception would be the HUD can be changed to any color.
Hope that helped.

went to GF and found nothing for MC:II or III that straight up says "car modding". there is one that talks about tuning but that isn't what i'm looking for.

Yeah you can mod everything on the outside. They even have different kits you can unlock and apply for bumpers hoods ect ect. You can even pick the tint color.

I tried to play various other games where you can do all kinds of things to the internal parts yet I am not mechanically inclined and didnt know what was best. I find doing upgrades to be really easy here. There are so many selections for external parts that you will spend a lot of time trying to figure out what you want to do. My first car the elcipse looked nothing like an elcipse after I applied so many kits and raised and lowered the front and back end.
Something I would like to mention with this game is that its one of the first racing games where I feel like the computer doesnt cheat. On most racing games you get to a point where it seems like the computer is always making turns and going really fast and your like wtf?!?!? Not here, I often find myself getting turned sideways casue I hit a wall and get behind pretty fall only to catch up shortly cause hte computer did the same down the road.edited: Jul 08 2005
