Logitech is most widely known and present in stores for their assortment of keyboards, joysticks and mice. Over the years they've also been moving into the area of gaming accessories. Rather than release inexpensive products to cash in on the buzz behind the PSP, the company has designed a new line of PSP accessories. In this review, we'll be taking a look at the new Logitech PlayGear Pocket Case, priced at $20 USD.

Construction

Logitech Playgear Pocket Case - Propped

Logitech Playgear Pocket Case - Top

Logitech Playgear Pocket Case - Side
Logitech's Playgear Pocket Case is made of a "virtually indestructible" polycarbonate. This case is strictly for holding your PSP as there are no slots for holding UMD's or anything else. The outside case is clear and the inside is black, giving a sleek and stylish look that matches the PSP very well. Rather than covering the PSP entirely in the hard case material, Logitech chose to provide 4 gaps in each corner, allowing you to access the headphone port, power port and both shoulder buttons, even when the case is closed. Finally, you can flip the top portion of the case back at a 45 degree angle which will prop up the PSP inside.

In Use

We're new to Logitech accessories but found this case to be a great value. Not only do you get an incredibly strong case that protechs your PSP, the case can also do double duty as a prop. Using the case in this way is like having your own mini-theater, allowing you to watch movies or have it playing music with the screen off. The lock mechanism to open the case is part of the case, so it is very durable and tight, ensuring that your PSP doesn't escape by accident.

Thoughts

The fit inside is incredibly snug and the case feels absolutely sturdy. The ability to use the headphone port and power port are great touches. What we liked best is the way in which the top part of the case flips back to act as a prop for the PSP. This will allow you to not only protect your investment, but also to watch movies, and you can even play games while in this position, giving your hands a break. The snug fit coupled with the sturdy surface gives us the peace of mind to throw it in a backpack or even sustain mild drops. An incredible value for $20, we urge you to get this case if you need to protect your PSP.

so the case will not be sold in stores? only online? why? usually you can find their products in store. they would have a better sale if they release them is stores. not too many people have access to the internet.

nearly everyone has access to the internet somehow or another. If not at home, then at work, school, a friends house, and most public libraries. I'm not sure where you got the idea that it would only be sold online though. Captain has a link to the product on EB Games' website, which means that it'll likely be in their stores as of 4/14 as well. I'll certainly be picking one up.

Do I need a tetanus shot for one of these? I can't help but wonder if you are allowed to lift your fingers off of the shoulder buttons without getting them all cut up by the corners of the lid when it is open?

I just bought mine at Meijer for US$19.99. It's everything the review says it is, and I've had no problem whatsoever with the latch sticking.

Looks like an awesome case, but here's my problem: The shoulder buttons are exposed (hence the four holes), but how exposed are they? Couldn't they easily get hit and damaged?

Vespacian.. there are thousands and thousands of people using this case. If it were a problem you'd be reading about it. I have the case and have used it for more than a year without any problems. The cases edges fall just past where the button sticks out..so theres almost no chance of catching them on anything. Hope that answers your question.
