This movie is very different from Hero, but still a beautiful story with beautiful martial arts. It's much more of a love centered story than Hero was, focusing on Xiao Mei (Zhang Ziyi) who plays an assassin in the legendary House of Flying Daggers. The story is very well done, and Zhang Ziyi plays a relatively traditional role for her, so if you haven't liked her past characters you may not like this one.
Even though it's a love story, the martial arts are still beautifully executed. Combining traditional Chinese dance and martial arts together was truly breathtaking, and the latter more fanciful action scenes were done in awe-inspiring settings, you won't be disappointed.
Don't expect a Hong Kong action film here, but a truly beautiful work of art that shows the beauty of martial arts in a romantic setting.
