I was walking through Wal-Mart's electronics division today, just looking for a good movie to buy. I was going through the UMD-Video's when I found this treasure. Here is my review of Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Movie Information

Terminator 2 is the second installment in the classic Sci-Fi franchise that began in 1984 with the release of "The Terminator". Despite being a low budget film, it grossed a huge sum of money and gained a dedicated fanbase. Terminator 2 was released in theatres in 1991. A 3-D Universal Adventure version followed in 1996. It has seen numerous re-releases on VHS and DVD-Video. Now, it is in the palm of your hands with the PSP.

Video

The UMD Video format has officially proven itself in my mind. It looks just as great as the T2 DVD Video released a year or so ago, if not better. The visuals are crisp and sharp, showing great care was taken during compression. Very good looking film.

Audio

Like the video, the audio is very high-quality. I haven't listened to the Dobly-Headphone Track, but it seems like it would improve on the already wonderful sound. Excellent audio compression, no complaints.

Features

UMD discs have a max capacity of 1.8 gigabytes, so there isn't much space left after the movie is pressed. It has English vocals only, but it does have English and Spanish subtitles. It has a scene-selection feature (thank God) and a very well designed menu layout. It also has a list of upcoming UMD-Video titles.

Final Oppinion

Overall, the T2 UMD has erased my fears about the format. It's a great film, a timeless classic, and its a great on-the-go movie, due to its non-stop action. I would recommend this to anyone who likes action or Sci-Fi movies.

Pros: Excellent video and audio quality, streamlined menu, great on-the-go film
Cons: Some commentary would have been a nice replacement for the Spanish subtitles

I review everything I buy.

Also, Terminator 2 is a classic. Who cares if it's old? It's a "timeless" classic.

Good review, thanks for it! Screw ridestowe and his impatient 'game review' ways.

Thanks

ridestowe: absolutely! Many people are curious how the UMD video compares to the DVD version. It's only a matter of time before we start seeing UMD exclusive content. Having a review of these videos will help us to know these sorts of things.

Hey, the people that speak Spanish like me would thank the subtitles

It looks like there are some great UMD titles out there, but a UMD release of T2 should have been a 2 UMD release. I don't quite understand why UMDs don't come in 2-packs like DVDs. The UMD games at Blockbuster have 2 slots for UMDs not just one. What's with the movie releases restricted to one UMD?

Thanks for the impressions of my review, guys.

@ Captain
I think the UMD version of FF7:AC is going to feature some exclusive content, but I'm not sure. I know the DVD version is going to include Final Fantasy VII on Playstation.

@ PSPAdict
True, true. I can't speak Spanish yet, so it's kinda useless to me. Most people in the USA speak English anyway. I doesn't matter, though.

@ Varchesis
I think it's for on-the-go reasons. They probably think that people aren't going to take the special stuff UMD (disc 2) with them, rather, they'll take the movie disc (disc 1). I don't know, though.

The first Terminator would have been better. I prefer the original to the Hollywood fluff.
