There's something refreshing about the PSP that inspires manufacturers to come up with interesting accessories. Hori's latest addition, the Neck Strap Headphone is the latest entrant to that circle. It's a pair of surprisingly high quality headphones and a PSP strap and holder, all in one unit!
The Neck Strap has two earbuds on one end and a reinforced lock clasp on the bottom to hold the PSP. Adjacent to the lock is a springy audio cable that goes into the PSP. The entire strap is meant to do away with a separate pair of headphones and the messy wires, while combining the functionality of a neckstrap to hold your PSP. Hori's other accessories are well built so it's no surprise that the construction and build of this accessory are well made.
What really surprised us was the high audio quality. They're even better than the Logitech Mod headphones in many ways. When doing an A/B comparison between the two, the Logitech headphones sound a little muddy in the mid to high audio range, while the Hori earbuds have a noticeable character of clarity. Sound is punchy and crisp, but the Logitech's bass is a touch stronger, but not by much.
Ironically, the downside is that these great earbuds are permanently tethered to the neckstrap. The concept is great if you frequently use your PSP to listen to audio or even watch movies. Frankly, the quality is good enough to use anytime, but the point is that you may actually not want to have the extra neck strap and lock hanging down your neck all the time.
Your neck may get a little sore, but if you've been looking for a great way to keep your PSP close by while listening to audio, the Hori Neck Strap Headphone is a great way to do it. With punchy clear audio and a multi-functional design aimed at converging numerous accessories, this bit of kit will make many users happy.
