The price is pretty steep...$330! I don't use WIFI away from home enough to justify shelling out that much

I think i am going to wait for the PS3. Some people think that the location free player will be built in.

It is another good way to show that the PSP is far better that any other portably system.

Most definitly, even if most people are not going to get it, it is nice to know that we would blow other systems out of the sky in the media department. But if I happen to find a couple hundred bucks layin around, I'll be sure to pick one up.

some people are most likely going to be proved wrong. it may be able to recieve it but you will still need to buy the base station
in all the images of the psp i have seen i have not once seen a single video input.

A very neat toy that is not worth more than the 99 bucks it'll be in a year when everyone and their dog has a competing product.

At which time, I'll buy one

I think GTASouthPark was referring to LocationFree technology in the PS3. Initial reports of the PS3 when it was unveiled last year had Ken Kutaragi saying that LocationFree technology would be a core component of the PS3. If that is true, then the PS3 will act as a LocationFree base station to the PSP.

So, GTASouthPark would be correct in waiting for the PS3 rather than buying a base station now only to have 2 later if/when he buys a PS3.

The PSP is only a Player for the PS3 or for the base station.

how does that mean it will be a base station? its much more likely it will be a unit that can recieve the technology. anyway, im sure all will be come clear once there is a picture of the ports on the back, if there are phono inputs, its probably safe to assume that it will have some kind of base station capability.

i think it may be able to stream dvds to the psp though, that would make sense.

No way it will have it packed in. The system would be close to $550 or more. I mean, maybe as a bundled option but not as a standard.

I bought this gadget a couple months ago. It's really pretty great. I was impressed that I was able to use it at mom's house via the internet on the first try. One of the ironies of the base station is that the player on the PSP is better than on the PC in that it handles 16X9 content better. I have mine hooked to my HDTivo via a S-Video cable. It would be nicer to have a stronger input, but then Sony would probably get sued by the MPAA. Sports don't look real great, but most shows look pretty good. Not close to UMD video quality though, more like the typical movie trailers you can get down to your PSP via the web. The other problem is that there is an encoding lag when useing the remote. So skipping commercials on a tivo is tricky and kinda fruitless. Nevertheless, I used it all the time. I've been waiting for something like this for a long time.
