The Sony PSP headset can be used for audio playback or for SOCOM: Fire Team Bravo (and various future titles) voice communication in infrastructure mode if you're at a hotspot. It can be utilized within SOCOM: Fire Team Bravo much like the PS2 Headset is for the PS2 SOCOM franchise.
i doubt that would happen, there isn't even a real decent voice recognition software for the computer. but voice chat online would be a different story.
I think the "PSP as mobile VoIP device" concept is exactly where Sony needs to head with this. As mentioned before, a Skype sort of service would be great -- not just "chat," but something where you could call any phone in the world via your PSP. While it certainly wouldn't be a cell phone-killer, since you could only make calls from wi-fi hotspots, I think it could develop a strong following. Strong enough to warrant a subscription-based service? I'm not sure, but strong enough that it would be worth the trouble for Sony to set aside a few servers and try out an website-based VoIP service.
Everyone is saying; is it worth it b/c SOCOM is the only title using it. I see Sony trying to utilize it with all future online titles - or at least they should. XBox Live was a great community because every title used the headset capabilites. GT would benifit greatly if it used it as well as some of the sports games.
yeah, well, ur gonna want to go ahead and get some if you dont already, cuz as soon as Splinter Cell hits the shelves, (assuming its infrastructure has VOIP, which it should) their gonna be sold out...
