the thing is, the battery and the HD will kind of balance the system out. if you already have one on, you cant fit it in any case so you almost might as well put them both on. it might even be easier to hold with both of them attached.

the battery and HDD are seperate attachments. they should sell the HDD alone, make it bigger (in data storage) and make it a grip-tipe shape.

On the us.playstation forums there was post about this but most people were dismissing this as being fake. Im hoping not as this would
be pretty cool.

I think it would work. It's basically a two part system, with the assumedly 0.8 inch drive and it's controller attaching to the back of the psp (in place of the memory stick cover or even the entire back). The controller would trick the PSP into thinking that it's a memory stick (using a proxy connector), and the included x2 battery would balance out the system girth-wise and allow it to hold decent battery life. My question is: Would you be able to power the HDD via the memory stick slot?

think olf this thing this way....
its a board with 4 1GB NAND Chips or 1 4GB one with a MS Duo dummy which has wires coming out of it. Really.... most memory cards are the same, theyre just hooked up differently. They should still be using the same NAND chips. Just get a MS Pro 4GB and get a converter then that may just cost less than 250. Maybe it wont but its a better way that using this with a 3rd party battery which we know may screw up, look at those power bricks.

Guys - when you see how big this is, you will laugh !

I have the X2 battery which is way to big and the harddisk will be just as big.
The PSP becomes very bukly and heavy with the battery and HDD.

Use your money to buy a 2GB memory stick instead!

THis is real not a fake and I think it is bad. You bought this sleek portable gaming system and you adding all these bulky things to it. I think flash memory (memory sticks) are the best solution. With a hard drive you use more power. Also memory stick prices are going down as the more people buy them. The capacity of memorysticks is also good.Sony sells a 4GB memorystick pro duo but it is too much right now. With Lexmark and Sandisk making memory sticks we will soon have lower cost high capacity sticks. Even Apple is stepping away from hard drives, the new Ipod Nano and Mini use flash drives. So Sony was on point in having no hard drive for PSP.

When more people buy a product the prices go up!

There is one thing I hate about the news post on this site... its that they dont post a link to any of the products they post. Come on PSP411 get a clue! we come to the site to look at cool stuff and maybe investigate the product more.

We need waaay more info. The fact that the manufacturer made a comment here with almost no useful information does not reassure me in the least. I saw an X2 battery for the first time last night. It's far too bulky. Adding something of similar girth to my PSP would be counter productive. Making the two assumptions that the PSP will see it as a memory stick, and that it will be as fast as a memory stick Pro Duo, the technology has some promise. But as I look at my pile of PSP cases, none of them would hold the PSP with this attached. I have some nice cases that cost a fair bit, so I'm not going to cast them aside.

If this thing is seen as a memory stick the feature that would have me salivating to own one would be if it was completely external to the PSP and connected to the memory stick slot by a cable. My case has an opening there, and I could still carry the PSP on my neck strap. The drive itself could be powered by its own rechargeable battery.

The way it is now, I'll just keep using my Steno 80 gig drive and some large memory sticks. Let's all keep our fingers crossed for those 4 gig memory sticks to become affordable.

yes it is true that with an external hard drive you can only put as much data as you have on your psp in it's memory card. But what movie is more than a gig and music you can have thousands of songs and go into the hard drive for each song. might take longer but you will carry more music and videos and it will cost less. 40 gb hard drive=$140 + 1 gig memory card= $90 = $210
