The PSP2TV is a hardware addition to the PSP that will allow you to watch your PSP on the TV, which should greatly increase the value of all those UMD movies.
And UMDs actually cost less to manufacture than Dual Layer DVDs (Thanks Sony!)... This would be sweet for any specialty website for a PSP game. It now allows any site op to record video of games just like Gamespot does. I dont think it's really practical for the home user, but think of all the cool video that will now be out. Remember all the cool stunt videos for the other GTA games? Now we can do the same on the PSP.
That's the only practical use I can think of. I dont think it will be that great playing through the TV. In fact, I got a PSP so I could play games without monopolizing the home entertainment system.
Well $120 isn't rediculous considering if you buy 10 UMD's and then buy the same movie on DVD (depending on the pricing) you will be wasting just as much money. The nice thing is that this allows you to buy UMD's which although do not come with as many features, are portable with the PSP. Also the idea of playing the PSP like a PS2 is kinda cool since a lot of people play their PSPs at home anyways.
I like the idea of it, but yeah, 120 - 150 is a bit much. Unless the face plate is housing a replacement LCD. Then the question of price isn't so much the issue as is the question of screen quality. Honestly a faster refrsh rate on the screen would be great. The PSP screen is crisp but it's nothing compared with Sharps other screens, especially the CG Silicon screen technology they've been using for the Zaurus line of PDA's. Video and game playback on my Z is far better (visually) then the PSP. Don't get me wrong, I love my PSP.
I can buy a cheapo dvd player for about 30 bucks, Sony can sell a UMD player which would be rather small since the psp is mall, its all relative, and they can sell it under $120, Im sure they wont just like when MDs came out.
Just be advised. Your PSP will not fit into a "form fitting" hard shell case anymore due to the bulk that is added to the botton of the unit between the audio and power connectors.
Booo...
Still very cool. I can't believe people are being so lame about this. I can't wait. No one else wants to play GTA:LCS on a big screen? Go over to your buddy's place and show off pictures/movies? I for one have a ton of my DVDs ripped to divx so I can play them on my psp. I would love to be able to hook this thing up to a TV in a hotel room/friends place/waiting room/whatever and play my games, music, photos and movies.
Don't be silly everyone, this has a very valid use. Think about it.
Very cool, thanks guys- Svideo would have been really cool. I can't wait to see what the resolution looks like. I'll probably be getting one regardless. GTA:LCS is going to be the first killer software app, and this is going to be the first hardware killer app.
Well yeah the idea of it is very cool, its just that $120-$150 is anal prison rape. Also the whole void the warranty and make your PSP not fit in your hard case blow goats. Great idea, sh*tty options. Again, its nice to have the option but I'll pass personaly.
have any of you guys ever heard of ripping dvds to a memory stick? It's fairly simple, just find the instructions through google and download the neccessary programs. + u'll need at least a 1gb card which costs like $80 now. And don't tell me about it being illegal, it's perfectly legal to copy dvds that you own for your own use.
Besides, i know u all think that the quallity of ur umd movies is great, but on a tv they wouldn't. The reason they look great is that the psp screen is small. but don't get me wrong, i think that the psp screen looks awesome, but it's no comparison to dvd quallity.
bottom line: my advice is to buy dvds and convert them for ur psp.
I'll never buy a umd movie... ripping movies to the mem stick might take a little while for the conversion etc. but it's much better than throwing money down the drain on umds..
Now that I've finally seen this thing, it's a matter of deciding how much playing will actually be done indoors, since you have to remove the face plate. With the new face plate, the psp won't fit in traditional cases so you would have to change the face plate if you want to go out with it and no matter how easy that is, it would be a hassle.
