The very first USB peripheral for the PSP is this voice recognition acccessory made specifically for the Japanese game Talkman. Measuring 50x10x10mm and weighing 6g, it connects to the USB port and comes with software which is capable of translating Japanese, Chinese, Korean and English.
1. Sorta Neat - Talk to the game... interact with characters.. It's been done.
2. Really Neat but probably wont happen - Say something to PSP, it repeats it in a different language. Portable translation system.
omg. i love my psp. oh the possibilities....but it could be kind of weird playing a voice recognition game in public.....hopefully they come out with a headset for it soon.
missed this...
"TALKMAN is expected to be for sale this November 17th, unknown if it will be a world release at the same time. The price will be 5,800 Yen (about $53US), and will include the USB microphone."
but still...why not use the headset slot?
it'll be terribly awkward (if) with a coord coming out of usb slot. maybe i'm just assuming it's corded, and actually it's just the thing pictured that's the usb mic. idk, you?

Seems to pretty clearly be a microphone dongle to me. It wouldn't use the audio out because. . . .it's not an audio output device. A microphone would need USB. So, you could use the USB mic in conjunction with headphones or the PSP's (crap) internal speakers.
Seems awesome to me. But then again. . . .I bought Bistro Cupid.
If you're referring to the rectangular jack then that is a semi-standardized connection primarily for remote control mainly. My iPod has it too and though there are certain accesories that CAN use it It for microphone, they are only low-quality ones because it doesn't have the capability to provide the thoroughput as well as the 5V power that that a quality would need, especially one good enough for voice recognition.

I see it, but it doesn't look like it's clearly a mic headset. Could just as easily be headphones with the in-line remote. That, and the fact that the connection isn't really capable enough.
yeah, i dont know that for sure or anything, but thats what he was referring too. it could be the remote, but it does look an awful lot like a headset.
i was talking about what agent808 mentioned. but just because the ipod can't handle that bitrate through the connector doesn't necesarily mean that the PSP can't. unless there's something i'm missing? technical information? the fact that it's standardized. idk. let me know if you do though.
