$900 and it only goes down to 20 Hz?!?! Seriously folks, I'm tired of seeing these stupid headphone reviews with NO tech info in them, so here we go, a treat from me to all of you... When looking for your new headphones, go straight to the cheapies and look at the back of the package under TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS... What you're looking for is Frequency response/range (Measured in Hz-kHz) and Sensitivity (Measured in dB). For frequency response, range is key, so the first number (Hz) you want to be low (and folks, 20 is NOT low...). This measures how far into the bass end of things your headphones can reproduce, so the above 20 Hz example misses out on everything below 20 Hz. The second number kHz should be high, as this represents your treble range. Now, I may be wrong on my facts, but the human ear can perceive sounds up to (Again, don't quote me cause It's probably a little off) 22 kHz (Or 22,000 Hz); so the above headphones are missing out on a LOT of sound. Finally, the sensitivity (dB) is the most important spec when it comes to VOLUME. It basically tells how much sound is produced per howmuch signal is fed into the headphones. Here again, the higher the better (Ideally around the 100 dB mark) simply because you can push the headphones that much louder than, say, a pair raited at 89 dB (A common number found on most "high end" headphones). To give you an idea of what to expect, I paid about $13-15 (I forget, but right in there) for a pair of Sony buds at Fry's Electronics (aka Outpost.com , and they had a Freq. Range of 5 Hz (That's right, read it again if you're uncertain... lol) up to 32 kHz and a Sensitivity of 102 dB. Needless to say, these things rock HARD and LOUD, and it's my pleasure to see the looks on peoples faces when I tell them how much I paid. So there you have it, now I want NO MORE HEADPHONE REVIEWS lol You all have your info, now go and be happy :-) Peace!

There are few high-end professional earphones on the market, one is this, another is Shure, and Etymotic Research, all three of these earphone comes with astronomical price tag.

This one though, is the most expensive in all those three, because of the custom made shape that fits only to your own ear, you're the only one who can wear it perfectly. They craft your name on the box when you purchase this thing, proving its own by and made for you.

To be honest, this really does not fit to be one of PSP's accesorries, all the high-end earphones, Shure e5c, ER-4, UE-10 Pro, are not good when used with PSP or Ipod, because they show the weaknest of your portable player, why? Because the static and the electric noise passing through you earphone port, are captured and you'll hear the sound of static when you're wearing this, it may sound ridiculous, but if you plug this into your PSP, you'll get the sound quality worser than a radio, this is not suitable for PSP.These earphones are too powerful.

And the tech info, actually it no longer means anything in this case, the theory for all these earphone are diffrent from the common ones, you cant judge it just from the numbers, and there is no absolute standard for testing the frequency, the company that made them can test it in anyway they want, I'm not saying that they're lying, it just that although the digit may have big diffrence, it might be the same when tested under the same condition. But you can guarantee that every company used only one standard to test their earphone, so if you want an accurate comparison, compare it with its own brand, that you can get accurate info.

According to a test, the writers tried out all three of these earphones, and the UE-10 Pro is the purest among them all, Shure e5c adds alot of juice in your music so they sound better, but for those who like original, its not suitable for you, but for a people who love heavy bass like me, I'll go with Shure's earphone. The Etymotic Research are quite balanced and the sound is quite original, but to think of sticking that long thing into my ear makes me shiver.

I realize that this is an old review but I dont care. It does not matter what kind of frequency range your headphones have. The human ear can only percieve sounds above 20Hz and up to somewhere between 16KHz ~ 20KHz. So your headphones could go up to 1 million KHz and it wouldnt matter because you can't hear it! I dont care how awesome your $15 headphones are, these are at least 60 times better. They have three drivers, THREE!! They have two for base and one for the mids and highs. It is like having a high end car stereo in your ear. Read some other reviews you will hear that they are worth every penny.

PS. I do agree that this really is not a PSP accessory, but they are absoultely the best headphones money can buy.

I am sorry Quillemaul but you have no idea what you are talking about...first get your facts straight about your human thresholds for "hearing" music, second, when you pick out a pair of headphones the tech specs DO NOT accurately state how "well" they will perform. If you are looking for a well-balanced entry level, but good pair of 'phones try the Shure E2c's. They are great! Just read the package about inserting them in your ear, most users say they suck because they obviously cant read or are ignorant! Try em out...you can find em on Ebay for 54 bucks or so. retail is $100. They have a gaming version (e2G) for the same price I believe.

okay, I don't think I have ever left a comment yet on this page and I own a psp and I have purchased a lot of games so maybe it is time for me to participate. I am just sick of everyone bashing prices, if you cannot afford it there is no need to pass judgement, because you have obviously never used the product. After 10 years of djing professionally I have tried alot of headphones. In ear monitors will always have their limitations because of the size of the driver, but they sure as hell are clear and they will save your hearing in the long run, losing your hearing is not fun. The human ear CAN only hear down to 20hz but you can feel below that, thats where the thump comes in. Most digitally mastered and processed music can drop down only to 20hz anyways, vinyl records are a different story they will drop lower and the range is virtually limitless. With this being said using ue-10 on a psp is not neccesary but for pro audio applications they are the best. Try working for 10 years in noisy clubs and having to blast the usual cans so you can mix lets see how your ear rings after just one night. Ue-10 saves your ears by allowing you to turn up the volume at a reasonable level to hear. So if you don't mind going deaf then go ahead and bash the earphones but for those who care these are worth saving the hundreds of thousand in doctors bills. Well to those who keeps bashing the highend headphones, when you go death at least you can hear us laughing at you. Oh, and slavery is never a funny topic, but dead baby jokes crack me up.

Simple and clean---Get a lifetime warranty on these puppies...got the E2c's from Shure...nice sound ---horribly uncomfortable seal....good wire/cord

Er-4P from Etymotic---Surprisngly strong sound--almost too good a seal(pull them out slowly.... after running)---stereophonic cord can be a pain...

These Ult Ears are NOT the most expensive by the way. There are 1000$ US Earbuds also but they look similar and are molded by a pro to your individual ears. Only for the hardcore....BUT the PSP is not too weak for these type of buds...the key is having the right source material..Low volume + high quality sound w/ games/movies is decent. 128 kbps Mp3's(Ipod is cr__P) quality sound is noticeably lackluster.

Well, I just got a pair of Shure e4g and they dont sound so good as I anticipated for it to be, I haven't finish the burn-in process yet, but for 20 hours of burn in I can already notice a good improvement and the sounds are getting much better and better. But still I would say that PSP is still a bit weak for these babies(though already much more powerful than the others).Even with low volume and high quality sound(1411kbps wav quality and 1411kbps wav with enhancement using X-fi's capability) It still doesnt sound too good although it has quite some obvious improvements.
