i have these and imo they are great, sometimes they fall out if your ear is wet (swimming, sweat) but the sound is perfect and it cancels sound good

I own the model above these.....the EX71's. My perceptionsare the fit is O.K., the case is cumberson to use, and the sound is average.

In relation to the sound, my perceptions are the highs are bright and the bass is slightly distorted and weak.

To be honest though, I may be spoiled.....when seriously listening to music, I use Shure e3's.

The EX51 comes with a L-shaped plug, right? So would it fit with into a psp inside a playgear pocket?

Yer these Buds are great but tend to fall out your ear and they only have to droop a little before the sound dies off terribly.
also as a tip if they suddenly sound muffled clean the little hole and black pad inside the rubber ear bit...gets glogged with Lobe Wax

Does anyone know the difference between the MDR-EX51LP and SP? I found a pair of SP real cheap but was wondering what makes them cost less?

no you don't have to use these or any other headphones (including the ones included w/your psp) with the remote. I just bought these for a weekend trip. Look for my two cents in couple days.

Also I would like to add that these pair of headphones have a tendency to ware out quickly.

The wires are so think and the covering isnt that strong either.
I have had mine for a couple of months and I already see wire sticking out and bending.

I love the sound quality that these produce - sound cancellation is fantastic. My only criticism is that the cable is too short without the extension part and with the extension part they are very heavy and pull at the ears - would benefit from a clip to attach the extension connector to you shirt or something.
