So far it sounds like Metal Gear Acid with plastic army men and the cards are hidden. In fact the graphics look like they're built upon the same engine used in MGA. But like a sucker, hungry for a decent strategy game, I'll probably buy it. DOH!

Somebody please port Crusader or XCOM to this machine! (Konami? Sony?) Wouldn't that be cool? Or Elite! Sundog? Privateer? Freelancer? Wing Commander? You know, games programmed for the gameplay first and then for their graphics. Or somebody donate me a developer's kit and I'll program them myself! ;-)

No, a handheld based simply on ports is not cool. I'm glad to see an original on the PSP.

Starcraft on the PSP would end up with frustrating controls and difficult viewing, if you like the game so much buy it for the PC because it will probably be awful on the PSP...while Diablo (a new version hopefully) would be perfect for this system and get the bad taste of Untold Legends out of my mouth.

But melloncollie, you are missing the point of my post... this is NOT ORIGINAL. It is Metal Gear Acid with different graphics. From the preview screenies, it looks EXACTLY like MGA with plastic army men in place of Snake and his accomplice. Right down to the over the shoulder view of firing a missile. The only thing missing is the cards.

What I'm saying is that this game looks like it is built upon the same engine as MGA, but with different graphics. What I'd prefer to see is orthographic turn based strategy games like XCOM or Crusader. Certainly the PSP could handle such a thing. The rest of my post was just a laundry list of some of my favorite space based strategy games I'd like to see come to this platform. Don't underestimate the power of ports on a new platform. If a port can recreate the excellent GAMEPALY of a previous version of older games, they will sell on the basis of nostalgia alone. Want proof? Look at the Namco title with stuff like Dig-Dug, Galaga, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man. I'm planning on purchasing that title next, myself.

Of course I'd like more genre breaking new stuff to come along and become million sellers, but in the meantime, why reinvent the wheel? Bring on the classics, Sony! Use the analog stick for a controler in Tempest! Bring me Midway's Defender on the PSP! I guarentee a million seller from us old school farts on that one alone....

I'll probably pick this one up. I love the idea of email based multi-player. That's one of the cool things about turn based strategy.

I did like Advance Wars, and one day I'll actually open Dual Strike and give that a whirl. But the PSP just chews up way too much of my time. :-)

This game may look like it's built on the MGA engine, but engine licensing happens all the time. It still looks like it will be more fun than MGA anyway. I do think that if/when someone writes an engine for a TBS game for the PSP it should have graphics that are some of the finest we've seen.

I'm not too sure on the idea of a RTS on the PSP, though. I've spent days in a single session of StarCraft. I love me some RTS. But I need my mouse and keyboard for that kind of thing. I can't think of a single RTS on any console because a controler is about 100 buttons short.

Not really. If you want chat, jusy make it so that a PSP version of StarCraft can use a headset. Then you just make it so you press a button and a chat menu comes up, then you pick who to say something to.

This game, now that we have a closer look including videos found at this link , looks pretty damn good for a first
strategy game on PSP. If they can avoid huge pauses and lags, this could be a lot of fun. $40 fun, not $50 fun btw
