This is because El Cheapo(tm) phone batteries do not have a current regulator on them. From the pics, it doesn't seem to stick out at all, but I could be wrong. I have used replacement 3rd party batteries before, and they have been fine. I have a 3rd party spare battery for my XDA II Mini PPC Phone, and its fine.
