No extra drivers necessary (Win ME, 2k, XP)
Not sure, as i dont have it, but wouldnt this device let you extend your battery (on aircraft, trip, etc) by just plugging it into your laptop, sacrificing one battery for another?
I just got one of those Boxwave ones, I was getting a cellphone charger from them anyway. I used it for the first time today, my battery light started flashing at work, so after finishing my round of golf, I hooked it up to my G5 at work. After 6 hours, it still hadn't finished charging, though it does show 3 bars. So don't expect fast charges via USB.
You can get it on eBay for only a few bucks. I asked the seller if he had any other colors, as the "rainbow" look is kinda lame. He said no. Do a search for "retractable psp" on eBay and you'll see it. There is also a HK company selling black ones in GBP, but the connector to the power socket looks a little tight.
Well I got one of the 0.99$ HK specials on ebay and it works about 1/3 as advertised. If the PSP is in sleep mode or off it will charge. If the PSP is on it will not charge. The USB connection did not work at all (either when the power connector is used or when the PSP is powered by its battery or the AC adaptor) under any conditions. I kept on getting a message saying that the PSP was an unrecognized USB device (normal usb cable was fine) and I tested it directly connected to a laptop, a powered usb hub, and a desktop pc direct connection. Therefore, as a portable charger on the go it will work as long as you are not using the PSP; for anything else it is a bust.
BTW, got a reply from the Ebay seller and they said that the PSP needs a pretty hefty amount of power and could potentially suck up the entire 5V from the USB port. Under my impromptu testing this is not true because when the PSP was in sleep mode it would charge even when I had a usb harddrive (without separate power) connected to my powered hub and transferring files
