Lathe was developed with two primary objectives: Superior Ease of Use and Superior Efficiency. Lathe takes your existing video files, optimizes it for playback on the PSP, allows you to select an identifying thumbnail that will appear on the PSP video menu and automatically loads it to your PSP. Lathe will be continuously upgraded on 3 fronts: codec support, device support and new features.
This is slightly off topic, but I have to agree with Scarecrow and dpaint4. The lack of support from Sony is very disapointing. We really should have gotten a web browser by now. And the lack of any intructional help for mp4 video was frustrating. I'm still learning as I go on that. There is so much to know.
Wow! We seem to be getting a really bad rap around here. That's a bummer.
I work with omniquiti. They are the company behind Lathe.
It doesn't sound like any of the posters here have actually tried to program so I want to encourage you to do so.
Lathe is really easy to use. Compared to PSPVideo9, it makes much smaller files and encodes much more quickly (using the old mp4 video format). You should be able to get around 4 movies on a 1GB stick and still have plenty of room for game saves and some music.
If you want to check Lathe out without paying for it, now would be a good time to do that. We are beta testing our new release and we have a few spots left. This new beta version adds h.264/AVC support for those of you that are using PSP firmware version 2.0. If you are interested in checking out the Lathe beta, please send an email to PSPBeta AT NOSPAM omniquiti.com.
