The fastest and easiest way to convert your music files to mp3s that can be loaded onto your PSP. When this free program is installed, it will add a plugin to windows that will enable you to right click on any music file (or multiple music files) and select "convert to..." to instantly change the format. This program gives you the ability to convert music directly to the drive location of your choice. In other words, you can convert an entire CD's worth of WMA, AAC, WAV, or other formats directly to your PSP! It allows you to choose the quality of the conversion, and iIt takes less than 10 minutes (usually about 7) to convert a full 18 track CD.

ADD TO WISHLIST I HAVE IT Other PSP Software

The current US version of SonicStage is 3.1. Japanes 3.2 is needed to transfer Atrac3 files to the PSP, and you must do it through the SonicStage program. Sony is enforcing their own kind of DRM even on the music files you create from your own music CDs. Atrac3 is a great format except for these limiations. It is commonly accepted that an Atrac3 file at 64kbps sounds as good or slightly better than an MP3 at 128kbps. So an average CD would take about 32MB instead of 64MB on your PSP.

If you create Atrac3 files on your computer using Sonic Stage 3.1, you still can't just drag and drop the files onto your memoy stick. The program validates of "activates" the file on the PSP. 3.1 does not support the PSP because it isn't a registered device for that build.

To further complicate things, SonicStage 3.2 from Japan will not install on a non-Japanese Windows machine, no matter whay language packs or primary language you've got installed. I don't care what Import RPG's you can play or what fonts you've got as default. This is an intentional security measure on Sony's part, and no one has thwarted it yet.

If Sony would allow other programs to create and transfer the files, then it'd be great. Don't see that happening though.

So basically we'll just have to wait for 3.2 to come out in English before we can play Atrac3 on our PSPs. But personally, I'm so pi**ed off about the whold prospect of Sony enforcing DRM on MY MUSIC, that I doubt I'll even use the format, no matter how great the compression is.

My two cents. How it clears up some confusion.

I've got this program with the Power Pack addons, and it's definatly one of the best out there. But you'll want to upgrade the MP3 encoder it uses. The one in the base installation is worthless. The best way to go about it is to install powerAMP, then go and install Winamp5. Even if you don't buy the pro version, the MP3 encoder is still installed and overwrites the one that powerAMP comes with. Your ears will thank you, even if you rip and convert MP3s at 48kbps like I do.
