Very impressed about Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, and Mortal Kombat 3... thats a damn cool addition. Couple that with 4 player Gauntlet and it makes it well worth it.
That _is_ a great lineup for a "classics" title. While I like Namco games, their Namco classics have always seems minimal. I realize they want to stretch it out, but back when they started offering Playstation classics with the individual letters of N-A-M-C-O on the disc cover, I knew they were milking it. 5-6 games (even classics) from the 80's doesn't cut it and shouldn't be accepted. This is a solid offering and if you assume it'll be at the lower pricepoint of $40, it's only $2/game. Extremely fair.
That being said, what Namco has done with their latest classics does interest me a little. Will I buy it? Probably not. Will I rent it? Probably so. The "arrangement" versioins, or whatever they're calling them, as well as the gameshare options are interesting to me.
Bottom line: Four player wireless Gauntlet... if we only had any idea when these games were in the arcade that one day we'd each hold our own Gauntlet machine in the palm of our hands and play against each other wirelessly with our own screens, we would've been sent to the school nurse to be check for drugs (or worse).
I agree, midway is blowing the doors off crappy classic games, if this was a namco classic game the iso of the disc would probably be 5MB's, this midway classic game actually has some games on it, maybe next time namco makes a classic game they'll put more than 5 30 K arcade roms from 20 years ago on it... They need to release tekken 3 on a classics disc. I'd deffinetly buy that
Dont get me wrong, I'd probably feel the same way, I loved the original street fighter but in no way i'd want to play that instead of a possible CAPCOM vs SNK for psp or something..
Now, as for the other games.. if it is the ARCADE version of 720... that will make me my pants.. I have yet to remember if ANY console or any gaming unit has EVER released the real 720 and not that NES bs.
Joust, gauntlet, marble madness (speaking of yet ANOTHER game I originally played on amiga and was fun as hell) pretty much every game on this release is awesome to me short of mortal kombat. horrible moves, all the characters feel as if they have bats in their asses, stiff as hell. ugh.. hated them.
unfortunately it's not a midway and SNK classic disc I do hate how Mortal kombat always has those complicated moves list for all the different players and the single player gameplay relies on mastering stupid button combinations, there are better fighting games but Mortal kombat games aren't too bad
I still think that a classic arcade collection is incomplete without ROBOTRON. They included it in their previous collection for PS2 and Gamecube. What's up?
