This new addition to the SOCOM series, takes place in four locations, with Chile being new. After a mission is completed, there is a new 'Instant Action' feature which allows you to replay the mission with new objectives. There will also be functionality to allow PSP users to sync up their PS2 information via USB cable, allowing the progress in both games to affect the missions. Furthermore, weapon customization will also be possible.
As can be expected, both Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure co-operative play will be possible, with the ability to form clans and do team-based play. By default, Fireteam Bravo will have two instead of a four-man team. Controls will also be optimized for mobile play.

Even though there are fewer buttons on the PSP than the PS2, the controlls could still be good. For one thing, if EVERY button was customizable (including the d-pad), it would offer a lot more options for players. If Twisted Metal Head On had this option it would probably be my favorite PSP game. Another option for SOCOM PSP controlls would be to make the analog nub be forward, backward, left turn, right turn, and have the L and R buttons be strafe. It's a little bit old school, but it would work well. The d-pad could be used to change equipment, stance, and fire rate.

this way seems to be the only way to make this work...

The screens seem to simulate some sort of lock on system, if you look closely you can see the cross hairs, and then separate boxes around other enemies, perhaps you cycle through the targets. Lets hope this system catches on, I would hate for it to ruin the gameplay cuz socom kicks ass.

if you watch the videos at gamespot they get into a lot of the details about the game and controls. socom will use a lock on system for aiming all guns except the sniper rifle. the lock on will depend on range and stance and although it doesnt sound very cool, it looked pretty nice. L will be used as strafe while the analog is movement. they go more into it at gamespot including gameplay footage so go check it out.
