Oh hmm... I get it now. To like move movies and stuff back and forth from a memory card when you're not near a computer. Could be useful.

Yes, you can hook up directly to the PSP, because this thing is a USB Host.

Yes, it works very well with the PSP. See this thread I started a couple weeks ago:

Can someone answer the frickin question?
Is it possible to plug this thing into the usb port and just use the Harddrive and not the memory stick?

you'll still need the memory stick to do file transfer, since psp can't just stream the files over from this external hdd.

PLEASE READ THE POSTS PEOPLE

1) It connects to the USB port on the top, and can transfer files to your memory stick -just like you would by connecting the PSP to your computer- (IE Using USB Mode on the PSP)
2) You can -not- stream files from the HD

What we really need to see is more hacks like this link I'd want to see a device that lets you wire something like a 4-5GB MicroDrive to the PSP - good storage, but still small and easier on power requirements.

It sounds cool but where does it rest when I am walking around with it at school, and also, what powers it. A harddrive requires a lot of energy to run. if it drains the power of the psp it sort of depletes its purpose.

hmm, i thought you could stream things which made this pretty cool. now i'm not so sure, its still cool, but i think i'd rather get 1GB memory cards instead.
