This thing looks pretty sweet. A lot of good user reviews too from the EB Games site. But the Logitech Playgear Amp is still my preferred choice. Does anybody have this yet? If so, what are your thoughts?

ok first of all people I have 2 key words that truely describe the quality of this device. HIP GEAR. Hip Gear SUCKS SO MUCH. Everything is of the lowest quality and super cheap. The last hip gear product I bought was a $30 (Canadian) controller with a built in screen. Which I thought was so freaking awsome to have a built in screen for a controller for a ps2 for $30 canadian. Well It was great until it started to melt on me. I'm DEAD serious it melted on me. So for the sake of your PSP I would not recommend this product to cradle your precious PSP because I would trust a stranger to hold my psp first.

This is a BIG ripoff of JBL's (really good) OnStage system for the iPod.

naaaa seriously, who needs stuff like that. i bought PSP to play games and listen to some music or watch movies on my way to work. If i need some SUPER DUPER STEREO STATION for movies there is nothing like DVD player. Bigger screen and better sound than PSP. just my $0.02

So.. I'm a sucker. I just _had_ to go out and buy this huge monster. Yeah, as THC says, "who needs stuff like that." Well truth be told, I do. I like it. It's a nice way to watch movies and the sound really is great. Deep base, good highs and lows, and the volume at 50% on the PSP dial is louder through the stand then the PSP is at max volume.
The downside? well, it's big. Secondly it doesn't actually charge a second battery as the advert says it does. It doesn't even have a slot for a battery. I called the manufacture on it and they replied almost immediately with an apology for the information and explained that the mock up was designed to have one but they couldn't get it shoe wedged in prior to production. They are sending me some free gear as compensation (which I'll admit goes a long way with me).
The construction is actually pretty sturdy. The device doesn't feel like it's made from cheap plastic and it holds the PSP well. The only part that seems cheaply made is the "upper clamp" this is basically a "C" shaped piece of plastic which folds over the top. It has two tabs to "clamp" onto the top two pegs of the PSP. It really doesn't do anything more then just sit there though. The pegs aren't long enough to clamp onto anything. Still, even without this added "clamp" the device sit's snuggly.
There are effectively three moving bits to the stand. The primary arm which is connected directly to the speaker-base is very tight and seems like it will stay that way for quite sometime. The arm also extends (this is moving bit #2) to increase the height of the unit pretty signifcantly. The third bit is the actual PSP bed which rotates to angle the PSP like an LCD display. This one is a bit loose from the get go. It doesn't have enough strength to hold the PSP for any real length of time. However with a bit of experimentation it became apparent that the optimum movie viewing angle has nothing to do with this hinge. It's all about angleing the arm back away from the speakers and keeping the arm contracted. In extracted mode and leaning forward the PSP floats on the angle hinge and is easily played while mounted. This mode reminds me of the controllers you see mounted at game stores with the demo machines. Playable if not the absolute most comfortable.
Overall, I'm pleased with the stand although I wish it had been equiped with the additional battery charging mount. Also, it does not come with its own power supply--blast! It uses the PSP's powersupply to power the speakers and the unit. After asking an EE friend of mine if this seemed okay, he did the math and told me that there shouldn't be any problem powering the two devices with the rig they've got setup. The fact that Hip Gear is sending me some free stuff to make up for the lacking bit almost makes up for the lack itself. But I can't expect that to hold true for others who purchase the unit. Ideally, check it out before you buy it. If you want a good movie watching stand with good sound and a high viewing point, then this is the stand for you. If you just want a cool stand.. well you could, unfortunately, do better.

This is very nice, well weighted, not just rubber on the bottom, but texured rubber, and lots of it, great sound, works well in a van, line in port (for the mac mini), the clip on the top works but is very fragile, but not really even needed, Same power suppy as the PSP is a stroke of genius. Great Stuff
