And why woul dit kill the batter more than any of the other games... Comparing it to Ridge Racer for example?

Is it really THAT MUCH more processing/graphics/calculations going thorugh the system?

hellllll yes! the reason RR has such better graphics than anything (and smootther too) is cause perhaps 10 percent of the game code is devoted to physics ( example while(steering=TRUE) {slideLikeASpeedBoat();} is probably it) whereas the GT4 engine is a simulation monster. Sims have to calculate feedback loops for every spring, friction for every wheel and clutch. Torques on the car, Yada yada yada yada yada. Its really extreme what calculations go into a real sim expesially for cars. RR also doesnt calculate a real model for the car based on the different mods youve used; just a static model that never changes much. whereas in GT your tires, shocks, wing, CG, weight etc all make a difference. All this happens every frame.

Now think about RRacers AI code? does ANYBODY think that it was even included in the game? GT4 on the ps2 has killer ai for a racing game. You can even freak out the AI drivers and get them to crash but its not easy to do. This kind of AI also eats cycles.

So yes, I am pretty sure theyre having trouble keeping the framerate up as we speek. But at least people tell me that a smaller one is easier to keep up.

oops I see on the prior page that the "batter" is the battery!, did anyone ever notice that if you take out your GT cd on a ps2, you can still finish the entire 30 lap race without once accessing the disk (cept maybe for music) -- why would it kill the battery?

It sure ass hell will kill the processer tho

and NO, I DONT WANT ***KING PHOTOMODE!

Guys GT4 is gonna run smooth, for those who are seening PSP hardware and you say i doubt from the luanch titles, graphics are gonna get better. Well they are cuz according to sony, they have been limiting the PSP this whole time, it's running 1/3 of it's cap. running at about 133mhz from the 333mhz on the processor, and 124mhz of the 253mhz GPU CLOCK CORE, so therefore once this limiter is gone we are gonna have good and better Physics games hence GT4(being the best along side half life 2 in physics).

My point is, don't stress over hardware issues JUST YET, i could be wrong that the psp can hold it, but i totally am sure it will work(playing GT4 on PSP)

yeah but if they remove the limiter, the battery life is gonna be worse

Theres one thing that puzzles me. I know the limiter is for battery life, but they should have a firmware update which notices when you plug in your psp to the wall, and will use the full ability of the psp. Just like the screen brightness. You can only go to level 4 brightness when its plugged in. So We can only use full speed when its plugged in. This could be used right now I think and don't see a reason not too. Then later on when programmers figure out how to maximize we can use the full without plugging it in. Either way I think if its plugged in we obviously don't care about battery life, and should be able to max psp out.

i havent played a GT game in a long time. does anyone know if you can supe up cars to look more like street racers opposed to track racers?

This is kinda true, but your facts are a bit wrong. Yes Sony have put a clock speed limit into the developer libs, but the cap is 2/3 of the total processor speed. The maximum mhz the developers can currently set for the GPU is 222mhz not 133mhz. But, and here's the big thing, everyone presumes we'll need a firmware update to allow this to happen, why? this is a limitation of the developer libs, it doesnt necessarily mean that the PSP itself is actually capped at 222mhz, just that developers (currently) cant access the other 111mhz meaning that they wont actually need a firmware update to unleash that power. This would make the most sense, it means everyone has a system capable of running these faster games, a lot less hassle.

(as a side not, the PSP can actually do more tricks than the PS2, a lot of stuff you had to do in software on the PS2 are now built into the hardware..... think bloom effects in Wipeout , for raw performance the difference between ps2 and PSP is tiny with the PSP 'slightly' ahead)

Just for those of you who actually want to track this thing, please post links to anything that indicates release date. Right now Walmart is saying 11th January 2006 (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3555322).

The underclocking of the processor is set by the developers. There is no need for a firmware update. Currently, games like ridge racers etc have underclocked their games to increase overall battery time since they're not too used to the structure of the psp to get the best efficiency.

but, the cap ois set by Sony, which is at 222mhz, Ridge isnt underclocked by the developer as such (in fact, the developers were a little pissed when they actually got the PSP hardware and it could do a hell of a lot more than the devkit, they rushed in features and where VERY impressed by the hardware), but the fact still stands that Sony have capped it at 222mhz, the developers can use any proc. speed they like between 1-222mhz but thats as high (currently) as they can go.
