It plugs into a standard USB port and charges that way. I like this for a couple reasons; I have a lot of free USB ports, and I can charge my battery pack at the same time as my PSP.
Things I like about this dock:
The PSP is angled back slightly, which is really nice for desktop viewing.
Charges via USB.
It's really cheap. I picked mine up at geeks.com used for $10.
Things I don't like about it:
It doesn't "secure" the PSP to the dock at all. The charging point is just 2 bare contacts, not even a plug.
You don't have access to the headphone port, which would make for extremely nice desktop viewing. I'd cut out a slot for headphones, but the dock uses that edge to support the PSP.
It has a white LED in the center, which is a little distracting. Going to cut that out.
Conclusion:
If you want to charge your PSP via USB or don't mind watching movies on the tinny onboard speakers, buy it.
It's a charging stand. You can indeed use the regular PSP power cable with this stand. You can also plug the USB cable directly into your PSP to charge it.
The PSP doesn't just sit there, it's sort of wedged in a little--I still wouldn't be comfortable having it anywhere near younger kids.
I have banged my desk a few times by accedent and the thing has not fallen off. It is a bit lose but it works well for charging overnight and i use an l shaped angled speaker cord to plug my speakers into it for desktop movie viewing. For the money it is worht it..
Yes, this comes with a USB charging cable. It will plug into the cradle or directly into the PSP for charging.
I did finally dremel out a section of the cradle so that I can plug headphones into the PSP while it's in the cradle. The remote will not plug into the PSP because of its design, but the Intec retractable headphones that come with the "Pro Gamer's Kit" ended up fitting perfectly after wrestling with it for a while. It's not quite as pretty anymore, but with the PSP in the cradle and headphones plugged in, you can't see any of the dremelling at all.
I don't know about you but I don't really like this charger much. First the contacts don't touch my psp correctly so I have to push on it to get a contact for charging. If my table gets any vibration the charge turns off and I have to push the psp onto the cradle again to get it back to charging. Lame! Also Stifled is right. You can't plug any external speakers on the unit while it is in the charger. LameX2! Don't get it.
I looked at this earlier today to put on my desk, but the lack of headphone access sealed the no-deal for me. Instead, I have the 2-In-1 USB Charge and Data Cable. Now, you say, why would I want that when there are docking stations out there that will work. My solution to the lack of a stand is a simple solution. A business card holder. I found one that is rubberized and it holds it at the perfect angle for viewing on my desk. Since there are no little kids around, and I don't leave it set up where my cat can kill it, this is a perfect solution. It stays upright, plugged in, and I can easily control it with the remote. I just wish the inline remote could detach from the audio out cable.
