The classic Chinese / Japanese game of Mahjong. Those who've been to Japan surely remember seeing mahjong parlors scattered around, slowly disappearing, perhaps due to portable versions such as this? One wonders.
how does mahjong qualify as a sport? anyway, i bought this game from lik-sang because i heard about it from x-play's e3 coverage. i was raised on mahjong. even when i lost my chinese-speaking abilities (hello kindergarten in mississippi), i still remembered the vocabulary for the game. i don't know japanese, and i definitely can't understand the characters/writing in the short time when they pop up in the game, but i can play it ok. i just can't get used to the fact that the japanese action button is the "o" rather than our "x." weird cultural thing, i guess.
actually it makes more sense because the cross (batsu) is for cancelling and circle (maru) for accepting. Japanese teachers mark kids work correct with a circle not a tick and cross (like the west) for incorrect.
