Adventure Player is a UMD game that allows you to also create your own adventures via a downloadable development kit for your PC. The UMD will allow you to play games off or your Memory Stick Duo. The games appear to be in the vein of graphic text adventures where you are presented with a static screen and have conversations and choices to make in the conversation. This is a somewhat popular game genre in Japan and other parts of Asia.

I love those types of games, my harddrive is full of translated japanese ones. I really hope this game comes to the U.S.

The only thing that would make this software really kick ass is if you could distribute the games as executables, rather than forcing people to own the software to be able to play the games. Ah well...

SpyderMS, yes, that would be great, but that's against the primary lifeline of a developer -- to make money. No money, no developer.

This is very kool - Id be very keen on an english version. Is there any info around suggesting a US/UK port? Captain is spot on, sadly because it costs to dev on Sony gear (like PSP and PS2) and Sony also require any discs pressed to have a minimum run of 10,000 units (I think it is still 10,000) its going to cost money to make any games - mind you this isnt Sony specific, you'll find the same on most systems (GP32 and Gameboy probably the most notable exceptions to this). Even without the people involved in development (artists, designers, producers and programmers) there are extra costs that need to be made up by selling the software (like dev tools - Photoshop, 3dsmax, dev studio etc etc..) all not cheap.edited: Apr 06 2005

Very cool? ugh. this sounds so lame. no offense to any of the people that like that type of game, but, i cant stand text based games where the only gameplay involves reading and selecting options.
boring. =/

Well, any game making tool is a welcome addition - you can always make it into something much more interesting with some creativity - oddly enough you could make it into a training tool. I mean, if you can teach using the iPod as a teaching tool, why not the PSP?
Personally, I think the Adventure Player idea is damn fascinating and looks to be a fun toy in its own right.

I'm not very interested in text based games, but the prospect of user created games being developed on your pc via supported software is very exciting!

text based? does this make the games end up playing like "Deja Vu", "Shadowgate", "Uninvited", and other games? If so...want, want, want!!!
