I just received an email from someone who wanted to know how, took the time to explain, might as well copy and paste it here,
instead of just tellin' people it can be done without an explanation....
it's quit normal and generally known, the only reason people don't do this (for e.g. also their notebooks) is because the range of it is like 5 meters, while an access point covers my whole property...
in network connections rightclick the icon for the wifi connection for the properties.
you can setup a static ip address (eg 192.168.0.1) with standard netmask 255.255.255.0, leave rest blank for the wifi adaptor turn use DNS on but leave the fields blank...
Bridge the wifi adaptor to your lan or dialup using the setup network setup wizzard, if you have a dial up you have to allow users to connect through that computers internet connection first by rightclicking>properties>advanced.
In de PSP choose a new connection leave SSD blank and choose a static ip address in range with the wifi adaptor, (e.g 192.168.0.100 )and non conflicting offcourse, and the same subnet mask 255.255.255.0. for Default router and Primary DNS fill in the ip address you gave the wifi adaptor, secondary leave 0.0.0.0, no proxy...
and your off...
with some adaptors that support promiscuous mode, you can even play on xlink kai etc, set up a multiplayer game on the psp and scan for it with the pc that holds the adaptor, set up the connection to allow to connect in adhoc mode only, install xlink and presto..

think you can buy a cheap one for about 20 us dollars or less...
search for a d-link DWL-120 or DWL-122 (maybe online), they support promiscuous mode so you can play ad-hoc multyiplayer games online with xlink kai!
just for the record, WiFi USB adapters use up a lot of power, be careful when running on battery power when you do this that you keep an eye on your power meter.
Man, I have been so needing this. My univerisity requires VPN and some other security stuff to get wi-fi on campus, and the PSP don't support it. With this, I can finally play on campus!
Probably the only person who would want one of these is someone with dial-up who cannot get a wireless router, but this doesn't even work with dial-up( link "Requires PSP & PC with DSL internet connection and Windows® XP" ). WiFi Max is much better.
DCL, how do you get the wi-fi dongle to appear as an AP? I have mine installed and set up on a bridge with my LAN connection but my PSP still can't see anything and the dongle shows up as disconnected in Network Connections.
