Once merged, the companies will resurface under Foundation 9 Entertainment. Much of the merger's reasoning stems from increasing market pressures. "There's a lot of nervousness about the scale and scope of games increasing," said Jon Goldman, the CEO of Backbone and leader of the upcoming Foundation 9, to WSJ. "It will physically become impossible to do great games with a small team with the next generation of games coming on." The merger is still subject to final board and shareholder approval.
