Unless it's nighttime in my room and my light is off, I use the medium setting. Otherwise, I use the darkest to keep from blinding myself whenever I turn the page in my PSP image viewer when reading manga...
It's funny how much fuss was made over the battery life, but I have yet to hear of anyone talk about it now. Personally, I use the brightest setting on batteries. The PSP rarely leaves my home, and when it does I make sure to kill the WiFi, mute the sound and dim the lights. What a beauty.
no..NEVER...gbasp is only frontlit, colors look faded.. thus looks horrible compared to the PSP's beautifully Backlit screen. this also applies to phones...backlit is best period !!

The new revision of the SP is indeed backlight...i know cuz i might be buying one some time soon :- f/w 2.5 :-(
