I'm still loving mine, but it's only a few weeks old.
But since I bought it, my PC gaming has all but died. I used to play CoH every day, and for many hours on my days off. since I bought my PSP, I spend my free time setting up videos, browsing for PSP stuff--techniques, tricks, hacks, add-ons, info. I plugged my old wireless router back in. I've been gathering the necessary files to move my ebook text files to html for portable viewing.
I love this thing.
I don't store music on it (I have an iPod that isn't even full yet
), but I want to watch movies, and get some good, long-playing games (Tekken DR, Dungeon Siege, Oblivion, Marvel cards, Armored Core, D&D, etc).
When I decided to buy, I looked at the two plaftorms, but decided on the PSP because of the bigger screen and sharper display. I have never trusted touchpads to last, and the DS screen seemed too small--and many of the games struck me as cartoonish (which is fine, just not what I wanted).
Although the DS allegedly has more games (in the store, I couldn't see a significant difference in quantity, although it's possible there were many more DS games not on the shelves, or not stocked by that store), none of them are games that really interested me. I've never been a fan of the whole Mario/Marioworld stuff, so the endless variations (Mario Kart, Mario Medicine, Mario Kickboxing, Mario X-TREEME Baking) did not interest me. I've not been interested in a Nintendo platform since the SNES (for Street Fighter
).
So, I'm loving my PSP and don't expect that to change for a long time. I'm very sorry that anyone would spend the money necessary to even try the PSP out only to find out they didn't like it. There's no way to find out by just buying a little bit of it--it's $300 or nothing.
I can see why people might dislike the PSP. Games do come slower (although, IMO, for a reason), and the cost of ownership is considerably higher (as is the cost of purchase). I like the fact that the PSP can do so many things, even if some of them are less than perfect.
Sorry for the rambling post--just got up
