legal downloadable games would be awesome....i would love to play some old classics but sadly that wont happen unless i go down the dark path of you-know-what-brews

IM/CHAT would make the PSP Unbelievable.

The UMD-R thing is illegal so i dont think Sony wants to make the PSP look bad, plus Web browser games are pointless since there are already games for the PSP.

Get a keyboard out for the PSP Sony along with a chat program with AIM support, and you'll have me building a shrine just for your company with rituals every week :-D

I don't know why you'd want to AIM/chat with a separate keyboard and a PSP, when Toccer and an unlimited data plan on a Treo work great? And practically everywhere?

Ah, to each their own, I guess.
Yes, the XBox model in genious; downloading games, using credits, all integrated online-- finally, Microsoft makes something worthy. If they had a touchscreen that could be used for PIM-type applications, with full syncing Outlook or iSync, then they would have more than what the PSP is now.

Unfortunately, I think Sony is a many-headed hydra that doesn't know what hand #2344 is doing; if you look across their product line, their software interfaces and hardware stylings are always completely different and inconsistent (e.g., DV cameras vs. digital still cameras, PSP, et al). One example: Their recent DV camera move from the DCR-HC90 to the latest DCR-HC96 was almost backwards in some respects-- crippled, even.

So, I'd say brand consistency and product integration would be top-level, which could provide things like remote control for your Sony A/V products, or plug-in to your car dash, or on and on... they need to sit down and brainstorm, and stop trying to be only bean counters.

They could learn a lesson from Apple here.

Who needs a UMD-R when you can have a v1.5 firmware with a 4 gig hard drive and all the games in the world <evil laugh>

Why is everyone so against burning UMD's? I guarantee everyone here has downloaded and burned something before. You all act like downloading music or a movie to burn on a UMD is the biggest sin of all. Considering movies are overpriced to begin with (especially some UMD movies now) and the fact that 6 monthes after a DVD release, a better "special super deluxe 2 disc whoopdee doo collectors edition" comes out, so what, their all rich enough, screw em. I read somewhere that the UMD format is open, so whatever company wants to make UMD's can, which explains that Virtual Lap Dance porn UMD.

I'm sure since the UMD format is open to everyone, some company, little or big, will come out with a UMD Burner. I'm sure one will be out in a matter of time. Recordable CD's were released, people burned music and the music industry cried "We're losing money, now we can only afford the $20 million dollar house instead of the $30 million". Did they stop making blank CD's? No, they started selling recordable DVD's...same problem. Obviously piracy is not that big a deal to music and movie studios or we wouldn't be able to buy these things. If they can put multimedia on it, a recorder for the consumer will come out in time. Blank UMD's will sell 10x's better than the crappy movies the studios put out.

To a certain degree, I have to agree with Crowbar. Sony's PlayStation platform should look different from the rest of Sony's various product lines, but I wish the PSP was intergrated with Sony's in-dash receivers, amplifiers/decks and stereo systems. It definitely doesn't make sense why there isn't a PSP feature available on the in-dash receivers.
