The web browser is something that it would just make sense to have on the PSP. I don't know why they didn't include one at the beginning. A umd writer would be handy...but a web browser would complete the product.
mem stick games would be nice. small games like poker, solitaire, mine sweeper, pinball, panzer dragon. LOL. but seriously it would make the few game most people have right now seem a bit more enjoyable when they went from a mem game to a UMD game!
"I can't believe you guys want a web browser mroe than you would want a UMD writer."
I agree that this is odd...but...I think I can justify it.
I want my psp to be self sufficient. The less UMDs I have to carry around the better. So, I want a web browser integrated into the PSP itself. I think that if the PSP had an integrated web browser it would be...to sound odd...a complete product. It has wi-fi capabilities....we already know that it can use a web browser (as in wipeout pure). I honestly don't know why one was not included.
So, yes, a UMD burner would probably be far more useful...but...a web browser would make the psp a complete product.
A browser would only be useful to those that can get web access while on the go. The only places in Jerz that have hotspots for free are some hotels and public libraries. WTF would I sit on my couch surfing the web on my PSP when I have 18" of 1280x1024 LCD luciousness sitting on my desktop. It keypad system makes chatting utterly frustrating. Face it people a browser would be cool but to make the PSP a "complete" product it would have not only have a browser but a better input system and the ability to run MSD games. The current PSP is for GAMES and MOVIES. In order for the browser to be any good the input system would have to be totally rebuilt. So wait for the PSP2 which hopefully will be touchscreen.
You know, we're talking about Sony here. The chances of them making a recordable UMD is so slim. Also, that's yet another one-trick pony device you'd have to buy. You can kinda tell it will never happen cause the PS3 isn't even going to read UMDs.
So, what exactly will you do with UMD-R anyway? Burn music on it? Ok, that's only 1.8GB. Get a HDD MP3 player, man.
Well, maybe you wanna look at a billion images with your UMD-R? Ok, you're probably looking at pr0n, no?
Same for memory card games. Plus, memory card games won't have the same appeal as say the Gameboy e-cards have had. The PSP is a Playstation portable. Not many small ROM games are available on Playstaion/PS2 to port to PSP. That's a 2D, Nintendo possibility - not PSP. It'd be cool, but you're dreaming.
Piracy is the real reason people want UMD-Rs and memory card games. Don't lie.
Again, this is Sony... just pray for a dang Web Browser with some cool chat features for now.
Sony Does not have to make first Party blank UMD's Look at the history of game piracy, did Nintendo make blank first party super nes carts, NO but that didnt slow piracy down at all durning the 16-bit era. Piracy is big money. some no-name company in Asia will make the equivalant of a blank UMD! If in fact this is the end way in which we will see bootlegs arrive on the PSP, which remains to be seen. You are totally wrong about memory card games friend!
