I just picked up my PSP, and I played with the damn thing all weekend. Great toy. I got a few games, but mostly just messed around with getting music videos and ripping movies onto it. I ended up mounting the little guy in the car with the Intec Dock. It works out pretty good, so I figured I'd share the idea and took some pics.

Cradle

The bottom of the cradle wedges right under the ashtray, then I put a strip of Velcro on the top to keep it from shaking and swinging down. The cradle slides right out and the wires get tucked into the ashtray when you want to remove it.

If you look at the bottom of the unit, you can see where it plugs into the aux input from my radio and a car charger. Both of the wires run right into the ashtray.....I hard wired the cigarette car charger behind the dash so there's almost no mess at all.

Video

Car Mount in action - watching Napoleon Dynamite (right-click / save as to download)

The sound and video quality is excellent. Napoleon Dynamite with great quality compressed into just over 300mb, which means you can fit 3 movies on a 1GB memory stick....or a ton of music videos and MP3's. It is a lot of toy for $250. The only problem is that it makes the rest of my car look like crap.

He said he has an AUX input on the front of his car stereo, which is an awesome feature that is unfortunately missing in most car stereo's.

OK Original poster please help me out! I am trying to do the same type of car mount except i plan on screwing the intec dock into the top of my dash. Problem 1: when I play the psp through aux input it sounds great but when i use my car charger i get feedback, and it is very noticable. Problem 2: can you please give instructions on how your converting your videos? as in what program, what settings and from what kind of original file (a dvd or avi etc)

Im curious how exactly you hardwired the cig car charger behind the dash ? That looks really nice.
I would hate to have to see that big ass plug.

AUX IN:
Actually there are a number of ways of doing AUX input. Mine is a Dual unit i got from BestBuy specifically because it has rear AUX in. There are few players that come with aux at all and even fewer that have rear input. The dual deck i got has built in RCA inputs, and you simply run a Y cable (google it if u don't know what that is) from your PSP into the back of the radio. I updated my cd player specifically to get AUX input and the rear input looks much more professional. Many of the mid level and up kenwoods have this rear input via a special cable that connects to the CD changer output plug. The diff in how hes doing it and how i am tryin to (waiting for my intec dock) is I'm putting mine on top of the dash and running cable through the dash to come out right beside the dock.

Cig Lighter:
This is how i did the same thing in my 1st gen Eclipse. Took apart my center console to get access to the factory wire running to your factory cigarette outlet Got an outlet splitter from Wal mart for about $5. Now the way the splitter works is it has a male cigarette plug on one end and two female cigarette plugs on the other end.
Here is a pic of a tripple outlet splitter:
link
You cut off the male end and splice the raw wire onto your existing power wire going to the factory outlet. It would also be possible to make your own ground wire (by attatching the ground to unpainted metal) and run a new wire from the positive terminal of the battery though that is alot more work.

PS i wish the original poster was being more helpful to all of us with questions. That being said i DO appreciate what he has done so far
