Japanese PSP owners are now able to update to v1.5 of the PSP FirmWare. North American owners need not do anything as their PSP's are already up to the latest version.
The full package for the first PSP update, which will take the PSP operating system to version 1.5, includes a lot of simple interface upgrades. These features include: Support for German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and Russian language options on the PSP menu (it will not affect in-game menus), a setting to retain the screen mode on videos, and a quick-resume function to resume playback of audio and video after coming out of the PSP's sleep mode (it won't automatically keep playing the media file, but you can jump right into the track or movie exactly where you left off before sleeping.) Total file size for this is a whopping 14MB, and those cool extra features in development are nowhere to be found thus far.

Ive updated my jap PSP but ive still got the update file in my saved data file can i delete this after the update or do i need to keep it?
+
You safely nuke it - it's only needed once.
+
leebioni, where did you get the update file from? is it a UMD that you need to buy?

Download the official firmware upgrade from Sony here: link
How to update the firmware of your PlayStation Portable
* "Network Update" function
o Enable the wireless network module
o Select "Network Update"
o Select your wireless network
o Follow On-Screen Instructions
* Update with Memory Stick
o Download the firmware image (~14MBytes)
o Create a folder "UPDATE" in your "GAME" directory on the memory stick
o Place the downloaded file in the "UPDATE" folder
o Select Game->Memory Stick->PSP™ Update Ver 1.50
o Follow On-Screen Instructions
You will need your power supply available in order to go thru the update. There is always a risk in updating any firmware and we can not help in case of failed updates. Be sure to not interrupt power or remove the memory stick during the upgrade process.edited: Mar 24 2005
