Inq said: "Much like the Playstation and PS2 platinum series, Sony's Japanese PSP owners will receive cut prices on popular games as part of a "The Best" series.

The first line up of "The Best" PSP games will arrive on November 17th including, Lumines, Metal Gear Acid, Ridge Racers and Vampire Chronicles: The Chaos Tower. The second round of cheaper offerings is set to hit by December 1st and includes Need for Speed Underground and Tales of Eternia. Games on the Best list will be priced at almost half of their original prices.

With no mention so far of the series hitting the US or Europe, speculation seems to be that prices were slashed to help the PSP in its war on the DS in Asia. With the success of Nintendogs, the same could soon be necessary here. This news coincides neatly with the launch of MovieSquare, here, Sony's new site to offer downloadable media for the PSP."
