GS said: "Sony's developers are considering adding Macromedia Flash support for PSP's Web browser in the future, as well as expanding Javascript functions. Kawanishi explained they need to determine Flash's performances on the PSP before coming to a conclusion. Kawanishi said that his team basically has an open stance toward network-related functions, and Flash playback was not intentionally ignored. On the other hand, Kawanishi explained that security issues prompted the team to leave out some Javascript support, such as allowing scripts to access the UMD. The PSP development team is planning to release a guideline manual for content providers so they can make Web pages catered to the PSP. Kawanishi is also considering disclosing the specs to the public as well.
When a Web page is displayed on the PSP, all data is managed in the handheld's main memory, Kawanishi explained. The browser does not use the Memory Stick Duo accessory to display Web pages (though it is technically possible), because as removable media, unexpected errors can occur if the stick is removed during use. Kawanishi added that displaying saved HTML files from the Memory Stick is technically possible and will be kept under consideration for future updates.
Kawanishi also revealed that Sony is already planning a number of USB peripherals for the PSP, and some should be announced in the near future. He commented that a keyboard and mouse are possibilities, as they will facilitate browsing the Web. The Global Positioning System device shown during last year's E3 is another possible peripheral, as it could be used with both the Web browser and PSP games.
The 2.0 firmware update gave the handheld H.264 MPEG4 movie-playback capabilities, and Kawanishi confirmed that he would like to add support for other formats. However, explained that some third-party formats cannot be supported. Instead, Sony's developers will be giving first priority to the most standard file formats. Kawanishi said there are also plans to support high-resolution and high bit rates, with plans already under way for the MPEG4-AVC format. In terms of audio, Kawanishi explained that the PSP supports AAC format, since it's standardized, and there's the possibility that the m4a audio format will be added as well.
When asked whether the PSP will support downloadable games, Kawanishi simply stated that the idea is under consideration. He also added that it would be interesting if users could develop their own simple games and distribute them online.
Kawanishi did not mention any release dates for the next update for the handheld's software in Japan or abroad. Stateside, PSP owners are still awaiting the release of Firmware 2.0, which lets the PSP browse the Web, among other functions. Sony promised that the update would be available the week of August 15. Past tense? Why past tense? The japanese update is out, but who cares? I'm a round eye without the 2.0 patch.

Blah, blah, blah. Yakity, shmakity, blah, blah, blah... In the future the PSP will wipe your @$$ for you as you play the best flash games ever created whilst you are sitting on the porcelain throne. There is a time travel peripheral that we are pretty sure we are going to release in the very near future. Pretty soon there will be an update that lets you browse the web with virtual reality gogles. Your PSP is going to visit your PS3....... on Mars, and you will be there too because we are thinking of adding a space travel peripheral.
SONY thinks we are idiots. Maybe we are.
Just give the U.S. its web browser already. GOSH!

I cant believe people are this upset over a small delay. Did you not think the update would eventually come since it was already out in Japan? Personally I am excited to hear that sony has so much commitment to the PSP. I mean they could say "You got your browser. This is it. All you get now is games and movies". But no, sony said they want to add lots of funtionality. I am really excited about the GPS. I travel a lot and have almost bought one a few times. Better web, email, video conferencing. Now I can be connected wherever I go and I only need to have my PSP on me.edited: Aug 24 2005

Got a question about web browsing. When you are on a website with your PSP, does the thumbstick act like a mouse? I would assume it does, but I haven't heard.

Waiting for GPS & Keyboard, probably a bluetooth adapter won't be a bad idea to dial-up networking with a bluetooth enabled cellphone.

No, THEN you could be. That would be great, like all the other stuff, if it were inexistance for this 9 month old platform!

Sounds nice. I'd like the internet browsing speed to be optimized first. Right now the WiFi is not being used as it should be, and the PSP is not using its wireless adapter to its full potential. Don't believe me? Just try doing an internet bandwidth test. It'll come out with 56K modem speeds.

It's faster than 56K. Much faster. I have downloaded a lot of MP3s and the speed was very good. Which leads me to beleive that it's the browser itself that is having difficulties displaying web pages.
BTW... The U.S. update became available very shortly after I left that last post. LOL. I still think it's a funny post though. And it wasn't meant to be another gripe about the U.S. 2.0 delay so much as just a gripe about the SONY hype machine. All that stuff that SONY is saying will come out will be great if it ever does. But most PSP owners want some very simple things... like good games.
In other words... SONY, shut up and do something already.
