GS said: "Square Enix announced details on the forthcoming movie debut of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. The company briefly disclosed last month that the computer-animated movie will be hitting theaters in Japan before its DVD and UMD release, but did not outline any specific information.
Admission to the movie screenings will not require any tickets, but, like most things that are free, there's a catch. Entrance is by invitation only, and only Final Fantasy VII fans that have already registered to the official "Shinra Company" online fan club hosted at Square Enix's site will be invited. The site is no longer accepting club members at the current time. If more fans sign up than there are seats available, Square will randomly select attendees from the pool.
As expected, the theatrical screening of Advent Children will be a limited run in major cities in Japan. The premiere screening will take place on September 8 in Tokyo's Virgin Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills, which also happens to be the theater where Square Enix held its Final Fantasy XII debut presentation in late 2003. The film's creators will also be on hand to speak at the showing."

Unless there is going to be a theatrical release in the States, who cares?

that discourse is what i call funny. Ignorance and the celebration thereof is the American way.

Dood, I hope this one doesn't fail in the box office. But what am I to say what the public will decide

I don't live in Japan, and I don't really care if they get it in theaters because it doesn't affect me.
+
This is why i want to move to Japan, they get all the newest technology like a year before everyone.

Your cultural sensitivity lives up to your name.

Shut up noob. I mean, honestly, if they were going to play a movie on the moon would you care? Well, you would because your 'cultrural sensitive' even though you have no chance of seeing it.

I think everyone forgets that the internet is a global community. Just because a site is in english doesn't mean that it focused on the united states. This site has users from all over the world. The US might not be fortunate enought to have a theatrical release of the movie, but it is news since the site has visitors from Japan. This site is about all things PSP, not just the US version of them.

Funny that someone with an inability to spell or properly use grammar is calling me a "noob", but that's off-topic. The fact is that your analogy with the moon doesn't work, because people (currently) don't live on the moon. People -do- live in Japan however(really!), and some of them visit this site for news. Hence, your ignorant comment of "Who cares?" was thusly railed on by others.
Aside from cultural sensitivity, it's news to you because believe it or not, the fact that there is a theatrical release in Japan means that there exists the possibility of a theatrical release (albeit limited release) in the US, instead of just going straight to DVD/UMD. It's fans that get excited over news like this that help generate enough interest to convince the suits that there's potential business in bringing these movies over. That's how movies like Ghost in the Shell and Miyazaki-anything get into theaters in the US. That's also how a lot of games get localized for other markets, such as the US.

You had to be a member of the official Japanese site. Now how many people in the States would that apply to? Assuming of course that it would be coming over here? You said there's a possibility of it coming State side, is there a chance you were a member of the site as well? I'm not a member of that site, neither are you, and guess what? The theatrical release still doesn't affect me, and it still doesn't affect you. There is no way I can see the movie so I have no reason to care about it, I would say the same thing if a movie was playing in California and not where I live. Is that a good enough of an analogy for you? People live there. Does that make me insensitive to Californians? No, I can't see the movie, and that's all that it is, take a breather and step off of your computer for five minutes, it would do you good.

I live in Japan, therefore i care. Just messing around actually. I'm not going to the theater to see this one, regardless of the fact I live in Japan. This one comes out on UMD and DVD on September 14th, so I'll save my $18 for a single movie ticket (yes, it IS that expensive) and instead spend the extra $12 ($30 total) and just buy the DVD.
+
Wow you're dense.
My mentioning that it could come stateside has nothing to do with being a member of their club; that's simply a promotion. OK - assuming Square Enix was to bring it stateside using a similar promotion, do you honestly think that you would have to be a member of a Japanese site in order to watch the movie? Seriously. Other than that, what's important is the fact that they have either reels or a digital master that is suitable for a theatrical release, hence, a higher possibility of its release elsewhere. Most theaters don't show movies by hooking up a DVD player or holding a PSP in front of an audience of hundreds. Say the promotion did happen in the US and it was going to show in California. Would you try to go? If you're a fan.
Browsing the web and checking up on news is my breather from work, actually. But, I'll take your advice and take a break from web surfing because you're right, it might do me some good. It might do you some good to drop the tired "all about me" attitude too.
