GS said: "With PSP owners complaining about the dearth of games available for the multimedia handheld, many have been using the portable for things other than gaming. The months of June, July, and August yielded only five new games for the handheld, making the PSP's other functions (MP3 player, movie player, digital photo viewer) more essential.

Sony is making North American PSPs even more practical with the release of the PSP Firmware 2.0. However, gamers eager to hold a weekend PSP-Web-browsing party got some bad news today. A Sony spokesperson has confirmed that the North American edition of Firmware 2.0 won't be available until August 15. The company originally pegged today as the release date for the upgrade. A Japanese version was released last month.

The update's most significant addition is the Web browser application, which lets PSP owners tap into free wireless hot spots to surf the Internet. Other features include "enhanced video and audio playback, photo sharing options, broader network connectivity, and a customizable interface to suit each user's personal style." "

Just update with the Japanese version. What's the difference? A month's waiting time to sort out some button mapping and whatnot.

Actually, Sony's site doesn't say that it's coming out on the 15th. It says that it's coming out the WEEK of the 15th - which could mean next Friday.

Although I know I could call Sony and get the info I was looking for, however, the lag-time they have to hold on the phone until an operator can assisst you is slightly longer-than-average...probably due to the fact that everyone and their mother is calling to try and find out why the hell 2.0 for U.S.A. isn't out yet. Here's a tip from me to Sony: PUT A DAMN ANNOUNCEMENT 0N YOUR WEBSITE! Aside from just good common sense, it'll probably cut down on the number of phone calls regarding the 2.0 delay that are currently inundating Sony. (Although, technically, none of this crap matters as I have already been using the "Japanese v2.0" since July 27th on my American PSP...and honestly, as we are now at the date of August 13th, 2005 and still browser-less , I must say that I am absolutely 100% happy that I did not decide to wait for the "official" American version...at this point I don't think anyone should still be waiting for the American version of the firmware update...install the Jap version today!...and reintall the American version whenever it's released!).

Hah! I wont taint my PSP with a JP firmware update. And to all those who say that it is the exact same thing as the U.S. version... don't you wonder why the U.S. version isnt out yet? I hardly think there would be a delayed U.S. release if that was true.

I had been content to wait for the NA release, but after Friday's disappointment, I went ahead and loaded the Japanese update. I _know_ there's no real logic to that, but there it is.

Today I enjoyed my morning coffee while reading the news on my PSP in the sunroom, instead of having to sit at my computer desk. And in the background was a Serenrity desktop (wallpaper) created by our own yoyo_pete.

I'm very glad I updated. Don't be influenced by those who say it will void your warranty, it's been explained elsewhere in the forums that it will not.

I encourage others that waited and waited Friday to go ahead and update. You'll be glad you did.

u cant go to american it will say the latest firmware is already installed.. plus if there is the jpn version on it, it voids your warranty

first of all i'm using the jap firmware and 2nd once the american version is out u could reinstall it to the american version so its a win, win situation

To: jossceluch Of course it will say "u already have the latest version of the software installed" if u try to update directly off yor PSP's "Network Update" option (under "Settings" on the "Home Screen" , that's why u reinstall the American v2.0 via the USB/mini-B port! And so u know, Sony has waved the "violation of warranty" 4 those (like me) who've impatiently updated early! So it's a win-win, there is absolutely NO reason - aside from obstinance - as to why you should wait.
