Many sources broke the news today the Sony PSP's long awaited North American launch would finally arrive officially on March 24.

It was long suspected that the popular PSP which only came out in Japan in December, would be available in North America by the end of March. The final price for the unit will be $249, nearly $100 more than Nintendo's DS. Unlike the Japanese PSP, the North American version will come packed with a Spider-Man 2 movie on UMD.

Launch Games

There will be an amazing assortment of 24 games to choose from on launch day. Many may be slightly unhappy to hear that PSP games will be sold *from* $39.99 SRP, meaning that most games will probably be closer to $49.99 or maybe higher.

from an earlier post in this thread. And also i saw some japanese anime movie being sold at 39.99 on lik-sang website.

My question is, why would you buy two copies of the same movie? If sony was smart they would bundle at least their properties together... Wanna get spider-man 2 on dvd? How bout getting both bundled for an extra 5 bucks???

the prices at liksang for import stuff are never the retail prices, so they're definitely not a good measure for the soon to come US UMD movies. I'm sure sony won't be stupid enough to price the UMD movies more than regular DVDs.

I agree with Brainfire that a bundle DVD/UMD option would be awesome. I also really don't mind the pricing, I look at the quality of the system, current capabilities, and the potential for future uses and it seems completely worth it. That's just me though, for some that may be too much to pay and it's understandable. I think, however, that Sony is going to hit the market it's aiming for.

You also must understand that Anime is already more pricey than typical films, and especially huge blockbuster hits.

Yeah, I was talking to my manager the other day for my other job and that's what the Sony Rep. told him. It's a smart move by Sony in a business stand point because a lot of people don't bother with that stuff which saves them money.
