AMN said: "For the month of May, Sony is the clear winner of the DS vs. PSP battle in the United States, with 250,000 units in PSP sales, compared to 57,000 units in Nintendo DS sales. That means that Sony sold four times as many PSP units as Nintendo sold DS units.

While Sony may have won the battle, it hasn't won the handheld wars. When sales of the Game Boy Advance SP are taken into account, Nintendo can add an additional 223,000 units to its total handheld sales, giving it a lead of 30,000 units.

June looks to be an interesting month in handheld sales as Nintendo has introduced the Electric Blue DS and also began a promotion where Super Mario 64 DS is being given away for free with the purchase of a Nintendo DS."

ok, well how about if you add the sales of the ps2 with the psp against just the Nintendo DS. Who's laughing now bitch!? lol

This sarcasm brought to you by the makers of nintendo DS.

Why add on sales of the GBA, anyway? To show that the DS is losing against Nintendo's own older handheld? It's pretty pathetic - Nintendo scores a major hit... On themselves.

Actually nintendo is still supporting both GBA and NDS with new titles coming out for both, and a new smaller not-clam-shell GBA coming out this winter... so it really makes sense to look at both GBA and NDS when comparing who is winning 'the handheld battle' between Nintendo and Sony.

Adding PS2 sales to that would not make sense sience PS2 is not a handheld. PS2 is a console gaming system being supported by Sony, and Gamecube is a console caming system being supported by Nintendo. PSP is a handheld gaming system being supported by Sony, and NDS and GBA are both handheld gaming systems being supported by Nintendo.

good point, but it's still an entirely different system. hell, DS isn't even considered a 'game boy'

you're trying to make your statement justified because the DS can play GBA games? how about adding GBA GAMES and not the UNIT. I added the "ps2" because I was trying to make a point about the adding of 2 systems unit sales together not making sense..., unless they are the SAME system with different colors..

Obviously PS2 is a totally different system, you couldn't tell that from the post?

It is either PSP vs GBA

or PSP vs DS

but not PSP vs DS+GBA, i'm sorry that sony doesn't have a previous generation of handheld, but don't get GBA and DS confused... 2 different systems. Sales don't mix.

Hurray for pointing out the obvious in an attempt to make yourself look better. Should I put fine print on the first post that indicates sarcasm?

June was different for the DS, however. Thanks to Electric Blue color and the Mario 64 bundle, sales shot up dramtically. Trust me, once the June sales are in, the DS will have beaten the PSP for that month.

I'm with digi on this - there is no sense in adding two different sale categories together to show 'look we dominate the market'. The only way to gauge market share is to compare competitive products. You dont compare the market of a ferrari with the market of a ford escort, and the same goes for PSP vs DS, GBA. In actual fact the PSP market is probably not even closely aligned to the DS - simply due to price alone. PSP would be better compared with iPod for instance, since they are more evenly priced, however differing target audiences - see the problem.

So while the fanboys will get on the "PSP craps on DS" and "DS totally kills PSP".. it doesnt really mean alot. What is very important to note however, is the large impact the PSP is having. Previously Nintendo have not had a serious competitor to compete with its handheld devices, now this has changed, and Sony (no matter how you look at it) has successfully lauched a product to garner a portion of the market - quite a sizable portion. It remains to be seen though, if this is a newly created handheld market.. or whether it has eaten into DS and GBA market segments.

But then again if we don't see more software soon, our beloved PSP loses alot of glamor! I don't need 20 different sports remakes of better quality PS2 games. I see some excellent PSP games on the horizon, but they are slow in coming. Come on developers! Chop Chop! Give us more decent games! :-P
