In addition to announcing its purchase of PC MMORPG The Matrix Online, SOE announced Friday it is in agreement with Warner Bros. to produce an MMORPG based on the vast worlds and characters of DC Comics. SOE hopes to release the new game in late 2007, and is currently targeting the PC, PlayStation 3, and even the PSP -- though platform plans still aren't set in stone.
"Expanding our fans' ability to participate in the DC universe through a great online game is a terrific step forward for DC Comics," said Paul Levitz, President & Publisher of DC Comics. "We look forward to working with our colleagues at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and the talented folks at SOE."
Any game with a delivery date of late 2007 is of absolutely no interest to me. It's the PR equivalent of announcing that spiked monkeys will issue forth in great numbers from the keister of a Republican nominee. Interesting, yes, but not actionable or even credible.
Would be sick to see happen, but 2007!?! that just turned me off from that moment. I loath long release dates... Perhaps if something similiar or when this is released we won't be forced to freakin' pay for the game play. I bought Guild Wars when it was released because of no monthly fee. Good game but not enough content to keep me occupied. Hopefully this will turn out right, so far kinda seems like a City of Heros spin off, except registered DC characters. Lets go 2007
I hope it's better than the look and feel of the X-Men Legends games. I know different companies and all, but if they're going the MMO route, they've got to really bring something unique and cool visually and gameplay wise.
