Ummm....Mario Kart online (Free), Zelda Titles, New Super Mario Bros., Nintendo Dogs (Tens of Thousands of Japanese can't be wrong), Metroid Hunters with online gaming (free), games with the ability to play with multiple people off 1 cart. Yup I guess us DS guys will just have to suffer with this years line up.

The world wide market is very different to Japan. Japan DS and PSP released at _same_ time. Hence are easily comparable. With the inevitable delays in PSP launches elsewhere, I fail to see any reason why it isnt Obvious (as digi noted). And again. Its important to remember with DS's _massive_ backward compatibility library (GBA games) it should be _swamping_ the PSP. This is why the DS at the moment.. actually looks a little ill (marketing wise).. it costs substantially less.. yet hasnt made massive sales against PSP. Imho.. considering PSP was taking on a market completely dominted by Nintendo with 180+million users.. Id say theyve(Sony) done a pretty amazing effort.. and Nintendo _should_ be worried.. because even without european launch.. and delayed US one.. PSP has 1/3 of the nextgen handheld market.. not bad for first attempt.. Put it in perspective.. Xbox and GC still dont have more than a quarter of the console market.. (and that was already a 2 company market when Xbox entered it - N64 and PS) .. so historically the PSP is looking pretty freaky on paper (in sales and market).edited: Jun 08 2005

I think that while the DS is a nice platform for Nintendo it was too little to late. Especially when it’s being compared to hardware as advanced as the PSP's the DS doesn’t have the legs to compete with the PSP in the long run I’m sorry it’s just a fact. Nintendo is already hitting its hardware ceiling eight months out the door and Sony hasn’t even started stretching there legs. Nintendo knew that there best chance for continuing success would be to be compatible with there older tech GB, GBA, GBC, and really that is nothing to brag about if its supposed to be there ace in the hole! However Nintendo is nothing if not innovative and they can always rehash there mascots for the umpteenth Gazillionth time. I'm having fun with Nintendo at the moment but its true and as long as they make a Super Duper Mario Super64 or a Pokimon teal, pink, or Hawaiian Punch, there will be kids that will by it and Nintendo will be fine.

Advanced Technology doesn't mean anything, every other handheld in the past that has failed has always been "better technology" than whatever the current Gameboy was with the exception of N-Gage. Also let's face it PSP sales have NOT been doing well because of their lack of good games at the moment. This year, Nintendodogs, Mario Kart DS, Metroid DS, Animal Crossing DS, will all drive up hardware sales especially because these titles will offer free online game play, something Sony is behind on with both Microsoft and Nintendo. So though it seems Sony was hot out the door, it has not kept its pace where as Nintendo is continuing to build steam and with the above titles, will continue to drive sales for this year.

You have to wonder why DS fanboys and trolls lurk on PSP boards. Do you not have enough US games to tide you over? HOW long did it take the DS to get any decent or truly interesting titles (still none really to speak of in the US market)?
I agree Nintendogs is huge in Japan, but that's a phenomenon that may VERY well be limited to Asian shores. Virtual Pets and the Tamagotchi craze are long done here, and North American consumers don't usually revisit flash-in-pan trends after they've become passe. Just like releasing new colors and Pokemon editions, one game with a gimmick doesn't override the fact that the DS is little more than a stopgap Gameboy with a second small, low brightness, low color, low resolution display slapped on with tech borrowed from 12 year old PDA touchscreens.
The DS is doing better in Japan than the PSP at the moment, but it took a big, incredibly hyped Nintendo game and new colors to reverse the beating the PSP was handing it since January. Sony had the initial game selection and that was about it (which was many times better than the paltry launch titles the DS had). If you look at the bigger picture, the PSP has taken a BIG bite out of Nintendo's handheld marketshare and its own sales are NOT flagging. Remember, Sony is aiming at a higher, older market segment as they did with the PS1 and PS2. As they expand their market, it doesn't necessarily mean the DS will show any losses in the younger sales.
I have owned a DS since they were released in the USA and can attest that the 'better games' argument is pretty weak. Up to now, the software has basically been 70% garbage (even worse in the US). Sony titles like GTA, GT4, Bloodrayne and many others listed on this website will certainly stand tall compared to the GBA/N64 rehashes-with-stylus-control like Mario Kart, Pokemon, Advance Wars, etc. etc.
The basic fact is, the DS is doing better than one might have expected, but considering it's $100 cheaper in the USA, the sharply limited availability of the PSP initially in Japan, the delay of the USA and EU PSP releases AND that it's a handheld with NINTENDO brand on it, none of this is exactly shocking nor does it automatically mean the DS will continue to outsell the PSP or even come out on top in the end.
I think most industry veterans like myself believe that the gimmickry and smoke/mirrors that is the DS will eventually be overshadowed by the truly next-gen capabilities of the PSP as it expands the handheld market into an older demographic and pumps out its second and third wave of games. This is the lull between the first and second wave of games, that's all. Certainly no worse than the 6 months of nothing that DS owners in the USA have gotten since last November!
And finally, how embarrassing - Those who have their egos wrapped up so tight in a device that they go LOOKING for an argument by invading the online web community of a competing system. Sounds like some DS fans need to relax.

It still could easily not, in Japan. Those are more American games, and it may boost the PSP a ton in North America, but you can't be sure about in Japan. They have very different tastes, and all the little innovative niches that Nintendo's filling with there games hit off a lot better over there than over here.
And Nushin, it wasn't really the Americans, it was more of Sony not being able to produce enough quickly enough. True that they went to America first.. but they probably are making more money off of America than Europe. If you had a choice to go sell some lemonade to one of two neighborhoods (no matter what one would have to wait) and one you knew you could get $50 out of and another you knew you could get $40, which would you sell to?edited: Jun 15 2005

too many words how much time do you guys spend on this thing... Anyway DS doesn't play mp3's, real movies, or have games as half as fun as the psp.

I bought the PSP over the DS because it can play MP3's and movies (plus browse the net) as well as play games. I used to enjoy Nintendo games, but not so much now, mainly due to the fact that they keep on releasing the same games all the time (how many Mario's, Zelda's, Metroid's are there). Nintendo really need to create new IP, and i don't mean Nintendogs, this isn't a game it's simply Tamagotchi for 2005.
I'm not loyal to any brand/company, if Nintendo were to produce games of the same calibur as in the early 90's. Then maybe i would buy a Nintendo system again. But as things stand as they are with them (Nintendo) just now, this seems highly unlikely.
