Gamegossip via Joystiq is reporting that thanks to the game Nintendogs, sales of the DS are skyrocketing, easily beating out the PSP.
• Nintendo DS: 39,687 (Annual: 904,498)
• PlayStation 2: 35,143 (Annual: 957,109)
• PlayStation Portable: 21,996 (Annual: 892,191)

Don't forget: Parents would rather buy their child a CHEAPER DS rather than an EXPENSIVE PSP. Plus DS has alot of those kiddy games =)

People .. people.. put this in to perspective. DS sold 500,000 units in its first week in Japan.. PSP sold that many in first two days in Japan.. The fact they are still on par in terms of units, makes DS technically pretty poor - its cheaper, it uses older tech, and it has GBA compatibility, the DS _should_ be swamping the PSP.. but its not.. any marketing person would see that as a serious failure on DS's part. Espeically in terms of sales and profits..

GTA is frucking TIRED. BORING and needs to be layed to rest. I have DS and PSP. I havent touched my PSP since I got my DS. E3: PSP lineup Vs. DS lineup... No comparason... Sony forgot about PSP this E3. That pissed me off!.

the DS does suck---Just compare ridge racer on the DS as compared to RR on PSP....or tiger woods on both systems---they don't compare---just wait till fall/winter---No one will care about DS come X-mas time ....all you'll hear about is the biggest X-Mas gift---which wil be the PSP ! They'll be sold out everywhere !

Yeah they are crazy, in WW2 they crashed there planes into our carriers.... Kamakazii like i think when they buy the DS instead of PSP...

Nintendo make great games that everyone can play you have to give them that. I just went to Nintendo World in NYC me My son and my girlfriend had a great time the games are for people who aren't Gamers
But I love my PSP but my girl has no interest in it at all but she like my son's DS cause the games are fun she doesnt care about the power of my PSP but I do, there both cool for different reasons

i agree that japanese games and some nintendo games are made more for fast enjoyment for everyone because thats the kind of games they like in japan. i think that fact makes it possible for any system with a fun new game to make some major waves in japan. i dont think that the same impact can be made in america and in the end i think PSP will dominate in the handheld race just because it has more to offer on the whole. DS looks and feels pretty cool, but seeing it for the first time didnt even come close to comparing to the first time i was amazed by the beauty and feel of the PSP. I wont put down DS, but i am confident in my PSP. i just hope they manage to fix up some of the problems everyones with having with dead pixels and such.

The PSP is doing better against the current Nintendo handheld than any other contender in the past. It was OUTSELLING the DS for the first four months of the year, and now the DS has gotten new colors (whoopee) and a couple of hot titles (finally - after 6 months).
Big deal. Nothing to freak out over. The PSP gets GTA and GT4 along with Bloodrayne and other huge titles later this year and you'll see some sales shifting then. The Sony is looking just fine. People on the internet = KNEE JERK REACTIONARIES.

Just wait till PSP's killer app comes out (whatever it will be). DS took quite a while to get their "killer app" though its sad that it is an artificial dog... game...thing... As soon as "the game to own on psp" comes out sales will skyrocket.

Who the hell cares about what Japan is buying? That's like saying, "You know, in Turkey, Fruit Loops sell way more than Lucky Charms." Who gives a sh>t? The Japanese will buy anything cute and pointless. Must be why they like Brad Pitt so much.

Did anyone ever consider the fact that the Sony PSP costs more than a Nintendo DS? Even with lower sales, you're dealing with larger revenues.
