Battlefield 2 Modern Combat will be available for Sony's new handheld platform Playstation Portable (PSP). It is planned for a first quarter 2006 debut. Digital Illusions licenses the right to develop Modern Combat for PSP to Electronic Arts' studio in Great Britain.
- We are looking forward to launching the Battlefield brand on handheld platform too, and we have strong beliefs in the spread of Playstation Portables, said Patrick Söderlund, CEO at Digital Illusions.

Spectere is right. EA is a publisher. They hold the cards, the money, the distribution. They hire a developer to create the games they feel will be profitable. DICE, as developer of BF1942, would certainly hold a good position to continue in that role but they may have no console programmers or maybe busy with other projects and EA probably has a process for porting their PC games to consoles as it is.

I'm not sure but i think DICE made modern combat which as far as i know right now is only on consoles. yeah, 2 analogs would be ideal for FPS but in my opinion, i've never really cared for FPS games on the console. its just that much easier to aim with the mouse i dont know. they could always make the 4 buttons into another set of directional buttons and use just the triggers as fire and a shift button. i dont know, it will be interesting to see how they mange to do it if they do it at all. defintely waiting for good reviews to come out before i buy any console FPS games.

Well, as a die hard battlefield fan (I practicly stopped playing ever other game except a few), I'll spread some knowledge.
Im not affialted with EA or DICE (who is owned by EA, iI hope that answers that last question), but I get inside information (for a lack of a better term). Anyways the controls are (unless changes) as follows:
Analog stick: to aim
Triangle: Forward
Circle: Right
Square: left
X: Backwards
R (on top): Fire
L: N/A
forward arrow: N/A
Left arrow: N/A
Right arrow: N/A
down arrow: N/A (but may act like the "E" key, to enter vehicals, ect...)
So, basicly its a reversed Socom (for the PS2) controler set up.
I'll post more as I hear more...

i am a huge fan of BF and i have been to lan parties and played this game for tons of hours, i think if they would just do flying like they did in the pc i would love it. But for the first person just knowing the quality and money they are puting into the pc and xbox version they wont screw this up because if they do and people buy it for the psp first it will hurt there sales, i think they are going to work on this one just as hard or harder than the others because it is more of a challenge

Did EA buy the 1942 guys out? What a shame :-/ I have vowed not to buy EA products after they burned me a few times.

And ea actually $50 for a psp game unlike the rest who only charge $40. I have bf2 which is cool. But ea sports are not even the best sports games.
