Uhm... No. They were classified (genre) as new-wave. The original band name was Joy Division, until Ian Curtis decided to hang himself. Then they turned into New Order.
*Note: This band started around 1978-ish
Kick-@$$ 80's music dude, not sure if your old enough but its a flashback from childhood for me"
Those where my highschool years. Shame he hung himself. Didin't think that there would be anyone here who would know them. It seems like 80% of the users are younger than 15. At least there is one.
I know who joy division is and know their music.. but I rarely converse with people about music, probably why i didn't initially post a "neato". Have either of you seen the movie that is loosely about joy division and the birth of new order? 24 hour party people

I liked it as well.. I thought sean harris played an extraordinary job as ian curtis, even down to almost uncanny resemblance in movement and likeness.. everything about the movie (except for the tony + van BJ part) was extremely entertaining, even if you have no idea who joy division is.

Oh yeah, the van. Very good film indeed. Sean Harris was something like an Ian Curtis incarnate.
I'm from England and grew up listening to Joy Division, 24 Hr Party People is a class film. The Hacienda was a good club and Steve Coogan is great as arsehole Tony Wilson.
