This is a guide on how to put your saved music files on your PC, or your own CD's and placing them onto your PSP. For my own personal needs I use the Music Match JukeBox and the Windows Media Player. I have just recently tried to use other programs such as ATRAC3 and ATRAC3 Plus, but the other two progams are much faster and I can hold more music with them.
First download whatever music you want to save to your PSP. You can use CD's, MP3's , or if you already have your music saved to your computer that's even better. If your music is already on your computer and it's in MP3 format you can skip this section and go down to the Window's Media Player section. If your music is on your PC, but not in MP3 format then keep reading.
Now before we begin if you don't have MMJukebox then goto the website listed above. At the home page there is option to get the 'Jukebox now'. After you choose that option it asks if you want to get Jukebox 10. It's only 19.95 but if you want it for free there is an option to get the regular one on that page. The regular Jukebox works, but 10 is so much faster. Instead of waiting 10 minutes to download and convert, it's now done in about 5. Open your Music Match Jukebox and follow these steps:
Go up to the options menu and in the Converter field choose the MP3 format.
Go back to the options menu and now choose the Quality and the size that you want your music to be. I choose Radio 64kkps. It's not as good as CD quality, but unless you're listening to your music through headphones, or just want everyone who's sitting about 40 feet away from you to here the music, you won't miss the difference.
Place your music CD into your computer and select record from CD, music device, etc. The playlist will come up and you can uncheck any of the songs you don't want to download. If you're connected online when you do this, all the cd's and artist informaiton will come up and ask you to choose which ablum you just inserted. Choose the first correct choice. In the end you will get a special reward for doing this. Now select copy music.
If your music is already on your computer, but not in MP3 format, you can go to file and choose the converter option. 2 boxes will pop up and you will be able to choose what kind of music files you want to convert and what format you want to convert them to.
Once your music is downloaded into your Jukebox libary you can choose the option of downloanding your music to your PSP. I choose to go the next step with the Windows Media Player for faster results and more options.
Windows Media Player
Open Windows Media Player and go to the 'Copy to CD or Device' option.
Once there you can click on the down arrow at the top of the first column and choose what music files you want to copy. If you don't see the music you just donwloaded, go to File at the top of the page and click Ppen. You can find your music files in the music folder on the desktop.
After choosing the music you want to copy. plug in your PSP through the USB connection. In the settings column on your PSP, go up to 'USB connection' and hit the X button. You will hear a ding sound to let you know your connected.
This is where some cool stuff comes in. You choose the appropriate Memory Stick drive (ie, E for copying to the PSP from Media Player. Once your PSP comes up hit the plus symbol next to the words PSP. A menu will drop down with the choices of Game, Music, Photo or Saved Data.
Click the + next to Music to open it up. Highlight Music and near the top right corner of Media Player you will see a folder button between an I on a page and an X. If you hit that folder, a bubble will pop up asking you to name it. Give it any name you want. This will be your special folder for whatever music you want to put into it. I have 5 folders on mine. 2Pac, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, Citizen Cope, Audio Slave, and I almost forgot I just added a folder for Linkin Park. Click on the + next to the file you just created and hit the Copy button at the top of Media Player. This will copy all of chosen music to that specific folder. You can do this for how many ever folders you want.
With choosing the first correct album name back when I first downloaded my music on Jukebox, I now have the CD artwork in the box next to the track name instead of a number.
I use this method the most to put music on my PSP. I have a 256mb memory card and I have 105 songs and 5 different game saves on it. I even have 5.13mb worth of space left on my card. If you're wanting to try this guide to copy music to your PSP and experience any problems with it, you can PM me and I will be glad to assist you.
No, when I copy the music to my psp it always does that. No matter how it is on my playlist. I imagine that there is a way to do that, but I have no knowledge of it. Sorry.
My tupac-me against the world is arranged how the real audio cd is. but my other music its ranged alphabeticaly. My Tupac folder has the Artist name, album title, track number, and track name. Ex: 2pac - Me against the world - 13 - the World. i believe the track number in the name of the file arranges in your liking, but its tidious to do it if you have over 100 songs in there. When i burn cd to computer i set it to the tupac file name formatt. so if you want to arrange your files do that. i use roxio media 7.0 to burn cd and it gives me an option how the file name should be.
When I plug in my psp there is no file titled "psp" that has music, video, or picture files in it. I made a folder and tried saving music to it, and it'll show that some of the memory is gone but there is no music. What should I do? I have a scandisk 512mb memory stick.
First make sure that the music your trying to save is in MP3 format. When I first tried to put music on my PSP I tried to copy it straight from my CD to my PSP. The music files said that they were in there, but when I looked on the PSP there was nothing there. I tried some different methods after that, but found that if I didn't convert my music files to MP3s, it wouldn't show up. The next step is where your placeing your music file folders. You have to create your folders in the +Music. Click on the + and it should turn into -. This means you have opened that section up. Now with the -Music highlighted go and create a new folder. After you name and create the folder it will probably vanish and you'll see the +Music, video, etc... Click the + next to the Music and the file will open up. There you will see the music folder you created. Hit the + next to whatever folder you just created and now copy your MP3s to your PSP. Now your music should recognized on your PSP. Let me know if this doesn't work and I'll take you through from the very beginning.
PM me and I will take you through step by step. Let me know when you'll have some free time and we'll start a forum and anyone else who is wanting to help with using this method to copy music and follow along.
The PSP supports playlists (otherwise know as a Group) via m3u files. This is actually much less useful than it sounds. You can only have one m3u playlist per folder, all songs must be in that same folder, and you can't use a playlist in the root Music folder.
The instruction manual says that you should use a playlist if you want to tell the PSP which order to play songs in, and honestly this is about the only good use we can figure from it. Since most people rip music with the track numbers in their filenames, they'll automatically be organized chronologically without needing a playlist.
Still, if you want to make a playlist, you can do so via pretty much any mp3 software on your PC. In Windows Media Player 10 for instance, one way you can do it is to drag the files you want in the playlist from your PSP into WMP10, right-click on the title bar and choose "File->Save Now Playing Filelist As..." Then save it as an m3u file in the same directory on your PSP. Most applications should work similarly.
If you want to go ahead and make an m3u file by hand, it's simple. Just create a text file in the directory you want it in, type the name of each track on a different line in the order that you want the tracks played in, and then save it with an .m3u extension. Simple.
Here's a quick example of a playlist that we'll call test_playlist.m3u:
If you want, to turn songs on a regular CD into mp3 format you can use iTunes.
If you have iTunes on Windows Xp or 98 then...
Pull up iTunes, and on the top toolbar (on the main iTunes screen) click on edit. Then scroll don untill you see prefrences and click on it. Next click on the import tab, then when you see the new screen, click the down arrow next to the "Import Using" box. Scroll down untill you see mp3 Encoder and click on it. After that then each song you put on iTunes wil be in the mp3 format. I had to change all my songs to mp3 format this way because the other ways werent working for me. Hope it works for you too.
