Ok well I've seen alot of posts here about Video on the PSP. I have come across what I personally think is the easiest way to transcode DVD's to MP4 files. I have already myself transcoded 4 movies into MP4 files and they have come out fantastic! I'm talking great quality and good sound and the file size will fit on a 512MB duo and you'll still have room left for your save games and everything. Example I transcoded Empire Strikes Back last night, it's 421MB's and that's a 2 hr and 15 min movie! Great quality and sound.
Well here are the 2 programs that you'll need.
DVD Decrypter (make sure it's version 3.5.4.0)
PSP Video 9
Now there are 2 steps to make an MP4 from DVD's. PSP Video 9 can transcode .VOB files so this is what you want to get from the DVD. You'll use DVD Decrypter to make a .VOB file of the DVD you want to transcode.
You will need to use DVD Decrypter to make a .VOB file of your DVD.
1. Insert the DVD you want to transcode.
2. Start DVD Decryter and click Mode tab, and select IFO.
3. Then click Tools tab and then Settings.
4. Under settings click the IFO Mode tab, then make sure under File Splitting the drop down box is set to 'None'.
5. Click 'OK', then under the Input tab on the right hand side select the movie. (it's usually under VTS_01, it's the longest running time on the DVD, other stuff is usually the extras.)
6. Now you're ready to rip the .VOB file. (Select the destination folder you want the file to go to on the left hand side just above the picture of the DVD & Disk Drive icon. I usually rip it to my Desktop so I can delete it later.)
7. Click the DVD & Disk Drive Icon to rip the file to your hard drive.
1. Use PSP Video 9 to transcode the file into MP4 format. (download it at link)
2. Start PSP Video 9 and then go to the Setup tab, find the best option under the Default Profile drop down box, depending on the length of the movie will depend on the settings you use. You'll see it's set up for different length movies.
3. Choose the default profile you want to use, then click Save in the bottom right hand corner.
4. Go to the Convert tab, then click New Job it will default to the profile you choose then under Title: field put the name of your movie.
5. Click start and let it go. It will make 2 Passes before it's done. You can mess with the settings if you want to make it faster however I usually start it before I go to bed and it's done when I wake up, plus these are the best settings and you'll get good quality.
6. Once it's done you just hook up your PSP to your computer, go to the Copy tab in PSP Video 9 and you'll see your files there. Copy them to your PSP and you're done, if you haven't set up the folders on your PSP for videos, PSP Video 9 will do it automatically for you. Just transfer the files to your PSP and it will set the right folder.
You should be done after that. You can mess around with the settings in PSP Video 9 to suit your needs or preferences. However the defaults are really good video quality for my taste. I usually only keep 1 full movie on my PSP and some episodes of Family Guy.
But this so far is the easiest way I personally have found to get the best quality videos on my PSP. I've tried Nero Recode but I don't have the right version of it that has the PSP settings and from what i've read PSP Video 9 transcodes better. Anyways enjoy I hope this helps all of you.
