Who would have thought that a skateboard video of all things could be fun viewing on the PSP? Silver Platter's release of the world famous DC Video is a perfect candidate for watching on the go. Even if you're not a skater, you might find yourself in awe of the tricks and stunts that skaters like Danny Way, Colin McKay, Rob Dyrdek and gobs of others showcase. ...
First off, this is quite possible the greatest skate film ever made. The cinematography of this film far surpasses any skate film I have ever seen. The DC team has some of the biggest names and biggest talent in skateboarding today. Each and every segment in this video is a testament to that, right down to the AM section. Danny Way tears up the mega ramp and soars across the Great Wall of China as a UMD only bonus feature. The “headphone mix” on this is amazing. The biggest problem I have with a lot of UMDs is that they are never loud enough. I certainly didn’t have that problem with this.
The great part about having this on UMD as opposed to DVD is having everything in the palm of your hand. If I want to pop in the UMD and watch Danny Ways part for some inspiration before hitting the ramp myself well now I can do just that. I only hope more skate videos come out on UMD because bringing this with me right before I skate a spot is exactly what I have been waiting for. The DC Video on UMD is a must have.
As someone who doesn't skate but travels a lot (and is a skier), I can say that this UMD is awesome. It is worth buying for the soundtrack alone. Metallica, Gangstarr, Iron Maiden, Rakim, Beanie Seigal are just a few of the artists I can think of off the top of my head. It has a very quick-cut edit style and most of the footage looks like it is shot from real close, and some with cool fish lense effects, making the tricks themselves looks really good and clean on the PSP screen.
I love the menu which basically breaks out the whole video and all the extras into one scrolling menu on the left that you can easily jump n and out of, with a DC commercial running in video on the right. There must be at least 30 options to choose from between the rider segments and extras, and I def haven't gotten through all of them yet.
The Hoops Commercial is possibly the coolest 2 minute piece of video I have ever seen and Danny Way's Great Wall segment is way better then I thought. When this guy falls, he falls really hard. I agree with the Quiznos guy's review-this is definitely the best UMD video I have purchased to date.
