To begin, I know very little about the anime series that this game is based on. I think I've only seen the first four episodes, so I'm not so famliar with the storyline and I don't know the names of the characters. Despite this, I thoroughly love playing this game. It has so much going for it. The gameplay is involved, fast-paced and addictive, the cel-shaded anime style characters are well-crafted and posess unique abilities that make the fighting interesting, and the backgrounds are both interactive and beautiful.
Going through the story mode was a chore, for the most part, because you have to keep pressing O to get through the dialogue, which there is a lot of, and there are only four mini games that you are forced to play over and over. Of course it was fun when I was faced with a battle. Towards the end, the enemies get extremely challenging to beat, which is a good thing, and upon completing story mode, you are rewarded with more characters to challenge your friends with. After you unlock all the characters, you will probably not want to have to go through the story mode again. There are other unlockables which you can get by earning points through story mode and through fighting the computer, but these are mostly to appeal to fans of the anime series.
The fighting system is what makes this game so enjoyable. It involves a few important strategic elements, the use of ninja tools, which can be acquired by hitting part of the environment, teleporting from the foreground to the back ground and vice versa, building up chakra to enable a special move, and a very fun mid-air exchange of blows that can inflict a lot of damage on the player who does not counter-attack in time. The levels provide their own unique circumstances, such as cliffs you can fall off of, higher platforms you can jump to, and lower platforms you can retreat to temporarily before the enemy catches up to you. Each character has their own fighting style to compliment the standard punch, kick and throw/swing a weapon. There's a guy who can drop a giant frog on you and fights in a quirky manner, there's a guy who is made of bugs and throws bugs at you, there's a girl who can generate her own ninja tools, there's a fat kid who can somersault into you, tazmanian-devil style, there's the tall sensei who fights in the classic ninja style... The characters definitely factor into the replayability of the game, and they are very stylishly designed, thanks to the anime series, I am sure.
As a straight fighter, I highly recommend this game, despite the tedious story mode. It is extremely fun if you have someone to battle against. If I was a fan of the series, I would not be disappointed with this one bit. If a sequel was to come out with more characters and not much else, I would import it in a heartbeat. The option to turn off the BGM would be nice, too.

Naruto has a combination of fast paced fighting like in MvC series, with the teleportation in DBZ, and use of weapons and foreground background fighting like in Power Stone. If you like any of these games then consider buying this one.
The only downside to this game is that it's too much button smashing. The "O" button is the only button to use when you want ot fight hand to hand combat. If you really don't understand jap. Then the story mode becomes to repetitive and kind of boring. As for the replay value. I still play mine with every chance I get. Seeing it's kind of hard since I'm going to school, playing Madden 06, and MLB 2006 the show.
But I highly recommend this game for people that don't mind buying a japanese game and just want to play strictly for the sake of fighting.

When I bought this game massive amounts of dopamine rushed to my brain and I felt giddy inside. When I popped it into my PSP, I knew it was definitly worth it. This is a very fast paced game, and without a doubt the best fighter for PSP so far (and most likely to come).
The characters themsleves when close are pretty detailed and look really good (cell shaded). They are still a bit pixely and blurry sometimes though when they are a distance apart, but still are awsome. The backgrounds are the best of all PSP fighters. A lot of things can be breakable and ae very interactive. When you do specials on the PSP its like pure gold in graphics. The characters in my opinon in some cases may need work, but re still kool.
Unfortunately, this game doesen't have the soundtrack of the original Naruto anime, (like all games) but it's still a good soundtrack and gets you in the battling move. The voices ar edone by the original actors (japanese ofcourse) and are just marvelous. I love all the sound effects as well.
This game has a dungeon system, that actually lasts a long time but is very repetitive. Basicly you go through the dungeon and in each room you can either battle, do a minigame where you ar e runnning up a tree, do a mingame where you have to remember what shikamaru did (it shows the buttons) and then press them, a slot machine minigame, a quiz (which is in JPN so this one isn't very fun cause you dont understand it), or one where you have to tell which ebisu is real and which are clones. It's still pretty fun to go through the dungeon. Theres a story in there too, and its very easy to understand even if you dont read japanese. I wont go too much into the dungeon story mode though.
Awesome, just awsome. This is a very fast paced fighting game with 23 characters (and yes sasuke is ni this even though there were doubts). So this is how it works. X button is too jump, you cn double jump or do a dash towrd your opponent in the air. SQUARE button is to launch shuriken or other items you may pick up (you can break some things in the stage that give you items). Circle button is to attack and different combinations of the circle button will make you be able to string together combos. By different combos I mean pressing the directionla buttons in different ways(and you dont play with the joystick in this game). Pressiing up up or down down and then circle will unleash an attack that requires chakra, like sexy no jutsu, or blowing fire etc. You can also string this together with other attacks, but make sure not to waste the chakra. Clicking triangle with full chakra will make this blue light shine around you, and in the breif time you have if you hit your opponent you do yuor special. Like with Naruto it's Kyubi Rasengan (when he is in 1tail mode). This lasts for about 5 secs and is very fast, to keep the fast gameplay flow going. Usually after you score a special you go into a power mode where you are super powerful for like half a minute.
R button is to block, and if you click it at certain times when yuor opponent attacks you you teleport behind them. Also if you knock an opponent on ome direction pretty far (easiest way is by pressing back-circle) you can click circle and the way the opponent is flying to appear behind them and activate a kawarimi sequence. basicly if they click circle when youre about to hit them they will reappear behind you and you have to click circle and it goes on. It's very fun. L button scrolls through the diff weapons to throw you may have picked up (which include fuuma shuriken, shuriken, explosive notes, poison bombs, etc). Thats about it for how you play, and its very very fast paced and addicting.
Also, this game is 2D fighting, but if you click X-up you teleport to the back of the stage (yes theres 2 parts of the stage you can be at). Then to go back to the first part of the stage click X-down. This game is extremely similar to the PS2 game of Naruto.
Not bad at all! If you ever played Bleach for PSP the lading times for the battle sare shorter than that. They are about 15 secs me think.
If you want to unlock everything (by this I eman characters and little bonuses like pictures etc)you will most likey have to play for at least 10 hours. You will still be coming back to this game over and over. And convince your friends to get it so you can battle them, since its a 2player fighting game. This game will last long, just because its so good.
Extremely fun, and the best game I have for PSP so far (I think its even better than katamari, but they are diff catagories but still). This game is worth getting by far, unless you are an anime racsist. Teleporting is sooo fun, and when you fight computers at their highest level, its so fast paced its awsome. ITs also a very very fluid game. And language barrier is very small, its really easy to figure everything out.

I am a fan of the anime. I've been one since it first came out and I read the manga. However the filler episodes lately totally blow. ANyways on to the game. If you like the anime you will def. like this game. Fast pace and very addicting. As some said earlier the story dugeon part can be very repetative but fighting is really cool. However the specials aren;t really that hard to pull off. I mean up, up circle and down down circle can get rather old quick. I'm sure there's got to be more. In terms of character roster, it's enough for the first Naruto PSP title. At the end of the day if you like the anime you will appreciate this game and how they were able to implement Kag Bushin, Kawamari.
