I have to admit that I wasn't too sure about this program at first. I wasn't enthralled with the interface. I didn't like that even though it would search Amazon for the album art, it couldn't actually add it to the ID tags. And I didn't see a big use for controlling iTunes when I only used it when I was right in front of my computer anyway. Then as I was getting caught up on my audio news I discovered the Airport Express. With that I can pipe digital music anywhere in the house over the wireless lan. And with Coverbuddy I can use the PSP to control it all.
I can sit anywhere in the house, with a DAC/amp plugged into the Airport Express and use my PSP to control my music collection. Coverbuddy's star page has a choice of two interfaces, large or small. The small one is designed especially for the PSP's browser and screen size. Each page brings up a list of your iTunes library alphabetized by artist. The small interface shows 10 albums at a time. The alphabet is on the top bar. Clicking on any letter brings up the first page of albums by artists starting with that particular letter. On the upper left corner is the play controls to actually control the music. The response time is great. All of the controls are quick and they do work well with the PSP browser. The web page refreshes periodically to update what's happening on the computer. It shows what track is playing and the updates keep that information current.
The program will search Amazon for your album art, but it cannot update the tags. But I've discovered that it's not a huge deal to then use iTunes itself to add the art in. It's no more cumbersome than any other tool for that purpose, and is better than many. Coverbuddy makes the search easier than browsing to Amazon and doing it manually. Once the art is in the tag, Coverbuddy displays it automatically (with it's logo in the middle if you haven't registered).
There is one thing I would like to see changed. While you can change the color and size of the label for the albums, I don't see any way to change the format of the text on the top bar of the control web page. My eyes aren't what they used to be so the white font on the light background can be a pain to see at certain viewing angles.
While it didn't seem useful at first, with a little imagination it turned out to be a great tool. I now can have my entire CD collection at my fingertips with full CD quality sound (I use Apple's lossless compression) anywhere in the house. As people come up with more and more tools the PSP becomes better and better. Coverbuddy is a great addition to any Mac owning PSP user's collection of software. I don't know if there are any plans for a PC version of Coverbuddy, but it would be another valuable tool for everyone if they did make it.
